IU calls for the establishment of an Emergency and First Aid Center in the districts of the South (17/05/2018)

The councilor of United Left-Greens Lorca, Gloria Martin, has demanded today the Popular Party that fulfills its electoral promise to create an Emergency Center and First Aid to give coverage to the districts of the South, a historical vindication of its inhabitants.

Martín alluded to the text of the program with which the popular ones attended the municipal elections of 2015, in which it is reflected that they would create this infrastructure and that it would be endowed "with a professionalized staff that meets the needs of the neighbors of the area".

However, to this day, the districts of the south of the municipality, which encompass a population of close to 8,000 inhabitants, do not have any health service that provides emergency coverage 24 hours a day except in Almendricos and Ramonete.

The rest of the offices located in Pozo Higuera / La Campana, La Escucha, Morata and Purias are open for medical consultations only during morning and midweek hours.

In the case of Purias, assistance in consultations is not guaranteed on a daily basis because the same physician must also attend to patients at home and provide services at the Asprodes residence.

Martín explained that, before a sanitary emergency, the residents of some areas of Aguaderas or Purias must travel up to 25 kilometers to reach the offices of Almendricos or Ramonete, or the urban area of Lorca.

The mayor of IU-Verdes assured that the people of the South of Lorca, as also happens in the Highlands, have an aging population that should go to the doctor more frequently and that needs urgent attention on more occasions.

Some population centers are far from the centers of reference to which users can take up to half an hour to arrive, which is critical in an emergency situation.

"The only thing we ask is that the PP comply with the word given to the neighbors and proceed to the implementation of this new service in the most appropriate area to improve the quality of care, health and safety in equal access," said .

In this sense, Martín denounced the policy of "neglect and neglect" of the rural population that demands "to enjoy the same rights as the urban one".

"This is not an elementary and negligent lack of planning and foresight, but a carefully designed strategy to progressively privatize public health and impoverish primary care, especially in rural areas," he said.
