The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martin, has shown her satisfaction because the City Council has accepted the donation of the Mill of the Escarambrujo, whose owners have given it "in full control, free of burdens, levies and leases".

The value of the set, which includes two other properties on a farm of more than 20,000 m2, is around 450,000 euros, of which the Consistory will not have to pay anything, so Martin thanked the "generosity" of their until now owners.

The mayor recalled that in May last year, the municipal group of Izquierda Unida-Verdes asked the Local Government team of PP the acquisition of the complex, declared Cultural Interest (BIC), to restore it and turn it into an ethnographic museum and the water and make your palm grove and its green areas a botanical garden.

After its owners manifested the intention to donate the Escarambrujo, in March of this year Martín asked the mayor, Fulgencio Gil (PP), to expedite the procedures with the Autonomous Community to materialize the cession.

"We congratulate you sincerely for this achievement that, unfortunately, contrasts with the terrible operation of purchase of the bullring of Sutullena by which the City will have to disburse 1.4 million euros," he said.

In that sense, he regretted that Gil has folded to the "greed" of the still owners of the bullring, compromising the municipal accounts "threatened", according to the PP, for the payment of the sentences of the failed urban agreements to which only IU opposed.

In this regard, Martin said that the purchase of the bullring will be to the detriment of other important actions to expand and consolidate the municipal heritage for the benefit of all Lorca.

He referred, for example, to the need to acquire another historical property and included in the catalog of protected property of the City Council, the House of the Counselor, a building of the nineteenth century, also in a situation of abandonment, which urgently requires the realization of consolidation works to prevent its serious state of deterioration from advancing.

The mayor of IU-Greens also recalled that the PP still does not address a plan to consolidate the remains of medieval fortifications in Lorca, which run a "very serious risk of disappearance."

Martín also referred to another property of municipal ownership, Casa Guevara, one of the main gems of Lorca's historical heritage, and that, at this time, lacks the necessary funding for its full value.

According to the Councilor for Culture, Agustín Llamas, 700,000 euros are missing to complete the recovery and musealization project.

For Martin, the 2.8 million euros that the bullring will cost between the purchase price and public funds for rehabilitation could have been used "with much more head" to enhance the municipal heritage linked to the history and culture of the city. municipality.
