The PSOE asks that the restoration project of the hermitage of San Lázaro that has been paralyzed for more than a year be resumed (24/05/2018)

The socialists want to resume the implementation of this regeneration project given the importance it has for the revitalization of the neighborhood and the creation of new green areas.

The PSOE will present a question to the next Plenary to clarify the status of processing in which the project is located, as well as the deadlines and expected funding

The Municipal Socialist Group in the City of Lorca, through councilor David Romera, has asked the PP government team to "resume the important project of consolidation and restoration of the former Hermitage of San Lazaro, whose execution has paralyzed more than a year ", despite the importance it has" to enable the regeneration and revalorization of the entire district of San Lazaro ", as it will also mean the creation of new green areas and recreation that can be enjoyed by neighbors and visitors.

The socialist mayor believes that the Hermitage of San Lazaro is a unique enclave "that Lorca needs to recover to create a new tourist attraction and thus end the urban regeneration of the entire area," and does not understand "how this project has paralyzed more than One year, when the award of the same took place on May 9, 2017 for an amount of 924,597 euros ".

Romera has indicated that "if there are problems in any of the expropriation proceedings contemplated in the urban action unit that is delaying the execution of the project, it is not an impediment nor is it incompatible that the works begin with the consolidation and recovery of the former Hermitage of San Lázaro and then the rest of the action takes place ", because" what we do not want is for San Lazaro to happen the same as with the Ronda de los Barrios Altos, which will not be executed due to lack of funding ".

The PSOE will take advantage of the next plenary session to demand that the Mayor respond on the status of the process in which the project of Regeneration of the Hermitage of San Lázaro and its surroundings is found, as well as the planned date for the start of the works, within execution and budget.

David Romera insists that the recovery of the former Hermitage of San Lazaro "has to be a priority for the government team with the aim of reactivating and revaluing the neighborhood," must begin immediately consolidation and restoration "that have paralyzed more than a year in spite of the fact that the project, which rightly contemplates the reconstruction of the original volumetry and singular elements of the temple with traditional materials, was awarded more than a year ago ".

The Hermitage of San Lázaro, possibly built in the 15th century and reformed in the 17th century when its main altarpiece was built (1664), was equipped with a ceiling with unique wooden paneling in the city as well as an ogival style rose window on one of its sides.

It appeared already in 1919 in a state of great abandonment and in 1935 the Bishop of the Diocese determines its demolition.

Inside, there are four painted panels from the 17th century that were located in the main altarpiece and a sculpture of Saint Lazarus, of notable Renaissance design, found in Saint Patrick.
