The City Council and FOMLorca are launching a pioneering project in the socio-health centers of the municipality with which to help people through laughter therapy (12/06/2018)

Tony Flower y Permanente: "Alegría p'a to'a la gente", has the objective that patients who are in a hospital or in a psychosocial care center reduce stress and anxiety, increase collaboration with the medical team, reduce the post-traumatic stress of the hospital experience and recover more quickly from surgeries and treatments

The Councilors of Equality and Health of the City of Lorca, Juan Francisco Martínez and María del Carmen Ruiz, respectively, together with the president of the Federation of Women's Organizations of Lorca, Pilar Fernández, presented this morning the project "Humor as a therapeutic tool ", a pioneering initiative that will be launched in the socio-health centers of our town.

Juan Francisco Martínez has explained that "FOMLorca, in collaboration with the Department of Equality, has promoted Tony Flower and Permanent:" Happiness p'a to'a people ", an activity that aims to provide response and psychosocial attention to people or collectives that are in a process of vulnerability due to a disease and that are found in socio-health care centers (hospitals, health centers, residences ...) It should be noted that in other municipalities of the Region of Murcia they are taking out this type of programs in the health field and they are getting a spectacular result among the users to whom it is directed ".

The Councilor for Equality stressed that "through laughter therapy (gel therapy) two important holistic therapists and professional clowns, Antonio Martínez and Paula Vilar, perform once a week clown numbers or micro-shows, comic magic, musical varieties and humorous, games of wit, monologues, participatory dynamics of laughter therapy and theatrical improvisation, among other activities with the purpose of allowing patients to accept treatment with greater acceptance, strengthen their optimism, the feeling of control over the disease, the energy of overcoming and feel more integrated. "

María del Carmen Ruiz, meanwhile, has indicated that "what we intend from FomLorca and the Lorca Consistory is that patients who are in a hospital or a psychosocial care center reduce stress and anxiety, increase the collaboration with the medical team, reduces the post-traumatic stress of the hospital experience, the integration of the people in the therapeutic community and, most importantly, a faster recovery of surgeries and treatments ".

The Councilor for Health added that "laughter is the best medicine, it helps us relax, eliminate tension and combat stress, and stimulates the production of endorphins," the drug of happiness ", a hormone secreted by the brain that produces well-being, decreases physical pain and is antidepressant.Laughing increase the body's defenses, the circulatory and respiratory system is stimulated, intestinal transit is facilitated and the internal organs are massaged thanks to the contractions of the diaphragm.
