The Mayor's objective is to renovate the riverbed and convert the underground section of the train and the disused channel of the Tiata ravine to the Botero Bridge into Green Paths (04/07/2018)

Fulgencio Gil raises to the technical services the elaboration of memories on the matter that include multiplying the number of trees, to extend green zones, gardens and parks, as well as to endow to these zones with lanes bike and familiar areas and sport.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, reported that the City Council is already working on the drafting of 3 ambitious new urban improvement projects that will be added to the renovation work that is being carried out in different streets and neighborhoods of the city.

It is, in the first place, the integral regeneration of the Guadalentín river bed, specifically in the stretch between the vicinity of the area of La Velica to the area of Los Sangradores.

We are talking about an area that is one of the first images that both Lorca and those who visit us, observe our urban area.

We are aware that we have to carry out such an ambitious and careful intervention, given that it is the channel of a river, which periodically suffers avenues, so any action has to be supervised and taken care of by the competent technicians. .

Fulgencio Gil has indicated that Lorca deserve to be able to offer those who come to our city a welcome image according to the new Lorca we are managing to raise together.

The situation that this area currently presents has to be improved.

In fact, and at the request of this Mayor's Office, a first intervention has been included in the urban renewal project that will take place on Avenida de Santa Clara.

It will be a first step, but we want to go further, since we have to deal in depth with what we want to do with the riverbed.

It is not only a matter of contributing together to keep it clean and clear, but of trying to take advantage of it so that it contributes to the social revitalization of the city and its neighborhoods.

We can not resign ourselves to keep it empty, that is why we are committed to coordinating among all administrations a response that satisfies the citizens, contemplating, for example, use for green areas, leisure, recreation and neighborhood entertainment.

The Mayor explained that the City wants to continue promoting the generation of new green areas, with more trees, playgrounds, recreational sites and bike lanes.

We are talking about deepening our concept of putting Urbanism at the service of people, planning a city where nature and respect for the environment gain ground.

Lorca can be a model city in this sense and we must move forward to achieve it.

That is why we also propose that the urban section through which the train tracks now run becomes a Green Avenue, a natural corridor with sports, social and cultural facilities, characterized by a very underlined presence of trees and plants.

We intend to integrate a bike lane, which adds more kilometers to those that we have already managed to put at the service of citizens.

After many decades in which this railway line had become an interior division for the city, now that we have the commitment to its burial it is time to change irons and stones for gardens and parks.

Fulgencio Gil has anticipated that the third major project on which municipal technicians are already working is the conversion into Avenida Verde of the unused stretch of the Tiata ravine, included between the current roundabout in the neighborhood of San Fernando until the Puente Botero, passing through the enclave popularly known as Brazal del Pozo, in the area of the hamlet of Campillo.

It is a concept that goes beyond the greenways, since the usual bicycle lanes, which would also be included, add a massive presence of trees and plants, with a profile similar to that of the underground railway section.

In this case, we are talking about a longer area, with whose project we would be able to regenerate a channel that needs investment and action by the administrations.

We are aware that we will have to coordinate work and efforts with public and private organizations, but we believe that this is an opportunity to significantly increase the green, sports and leisure areas of all citizens.
