Aguas de Lorca reviews and refines 3,000 scuppers and sewers in our municipal area in order to avoid incidents in case of heavy rainfall (17/09/2018)

It is a special intervention campaign involving different teams of workers, with the use of special high pressure machinery, as well as an "underground drone", which allows to detect possible obstructions in the network.

The councilman in charge of the municipal company Aguas de Lorca, Francisco García, has informed that workers of Aguas de Lorca are busy these days to clean one by one the almost 3,000 scuppers and sewers that make up the drainage network of the urban area and districts.

Maintenance is constant throughout the year but in spring and autumn it is carried out more in depth to minimize the impact of possible torrential rains and favor the adequate evacuation of rainwater.

Francisco García said that after the summer months, the drains are usually full of dirt, papers and leaves that even block the ducts.

To avoid this type of incidents, intervention vehicles and mixed equipment with high-pressure washers are used by Aguas de Lorca.

We are talking about a campaign that is completed in the second half of September.

The mayor of Aguas de Lorca has pointed out that the ambitious battery of works and investments of integral urban regeneration that have been carried out in recent years thanks to the impulse and financing of the Regional Government is enabling the elimination of some particularly conflicting points, in which it was It is usual that floods originate precisely because of obstructions in the network, as was the case of Avenida Juan Carlos I and Alameda de Cervantes, the latter area currently under construction and which is being provided with its own rainwater network, independent of the sewage system, following the line of work marked in this respect by the Municipal Administration.

Francisco García has stressed that the new rainwater collectors installed in recent years in these areas considered conflictive, are demonstrating their optical efficiency, being able to absorb the rainfall that has been recorded without reporting the problems that originated before each time we attended to episodes of intense rainfall.

We have to indicate that the checks on the state of the rainwater network are constant throughout the year by Aguas de Lorca, so that each month an average of 11 kilometers is checked, reaching a total of 92 kilometers until this month. km in total.

Regarding the monitoring of the state of the scuppers, it should be explained that 200 of them are checked each month, within a work that reaches 1,700 per year.

The state of the rainwater network is also reviewed using the latest technology in this regard, as is the case of a remote viewing system through an "underground drone", which is controlled by the company's workers, and thanks which has been checked 33 km, presenting a monthly average of 4 km.
