The City Council carries out, through employment programs, a cloak for the patron saint of Lorca that meets the main characteristics of Lorca embroidery (08/10/2018)

The design, made by Joaquín Bastida, is based on the first embroidery made in our city in the 18th century.

The dimensions of the work are 200 cm long and 175 cm wide, embroidered in gold comb and silks, on satin damask support.

Its realization has been carried out by the students of the embroidery training workshop, which have been directed by two magnificent Lorca embroiderers Ana Cazorla and Isabel Martínez

The Local Development Councilor of the City of Lorca, Sandra Martinez, has delivered this morning to the president of the Brotherhood of the Virgen de las Huertas, Isabel Giménez, an embroidered cloak especially for the Patron Saint of Lorca by the students of the embroidery training workshop , belonging to the project "Young Employment Lorca" developed by this area of ​​municipal management.

Sandra Martinez has indicated that "within this training activity was scheduled as a final course activity the realization of a mantle for the Virgen de las Huertas that meets each and every one of the main characteristics of Lorca embroidery. the pertinent procedures so that their design and execution could be carried out through this training and employment project First of all, contact the artistic director Joaquín Bastida, for having a great experience in embroidery management ".

The Local Development Councilor explained that "the design is based on the first embroidery made in our city back in the eighteenth century, providing the main fret with a transition style ornament between the Renaissance and an early Baroque style. ornamental is topped by a stole of stars that symbolize the Marian iconography, since it is an image of Gloria.In the center, the anagram of Mary, as a sign of the devotion that is processed to our Patron, and in his auction superior a delicate crown, as a symbol of his royalty ".

Martinez added that "all this environment is within a circle with twelve stars, symbolism par excellence of the images of Mary and Gloria as is the case." This project is co-financed by the European Social Fund and the Lorca City Council and aims to integrate young people, belonging to the National Youth Guarantee System in the labor market.
