The Virgen del Alcázar Hospital organizes the talk "Care against lymphedema" within the "Flechas Rosas" project (20/11/2018)

Next Thursday, November 22nd, we organized the talk "Care against lymphedema" at the Virgen del Alcázar Hospital within the "Flechas Rosas" project, aimed at the rehabilitation of breast cancer patients.

I attach the press release and the poster, thank you in advance for the dissemination.

The talk will be given by Mª Huertas Ibarra Garro, physiotherapist responsible for the Hospital's Rehabilitation Service, and will take place in this center next Thursday, November 22, at 5:00 p.m.

This is the first of a series of lectures and workshops given by the Hospital's specialists to guide women who have suffered or suffer from breast cancer in terms of care and prevention.

This time the talk is aimed at patients who have undergone mastectomies (removal of the breast), since during this surgery lymph nodes are usually removed from the armpit and the drainage capacity is sometimes insufficient, so The arm begins to swell due to the accumulation of fat under the skin and produces what is known as lymphedema.

This is the case of the women who make up the "Flechas Rosas" project, organized by the Arco Lorca club and sponsored by the Virgen del Alcázar Hospital and the Alimer Foundation.

These women practice archery every Friday because the vibrations that occur when the arch is tightened favor natural drainage of the entire axillary area and help prevent lymphedema from occurring.

The project "Flechas Rosas" was born in March 2017 and its success has been resounding, so every Friday, from 5 pm to 7 pm, a large group of women gather in the basement of the San Fernando Pavilion to practice archery .
