Protest of the residents of the Marín road due to the stoppage of the regeneration works (30/11/2018)

The councilor of IU, Gloria Martin, who has accompanied those affected in their protest, ensures that the work was abandoned 14 weeks ago by a conflict between the City Council and Telefónica on account of the channeling of the line.

In addition, there has been no burying of the low voltage, which neighbors fear that the conflict with Telefonica adds another Iberdrola

The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes Lorca, Gloria Martin, has accompanied this afternoon to the neighbors of the Marín road who have organized an act of protest for the paralysis of the works of regeneration of this road.

Several dozens of residents have concentrated to demand the continuation of the works and to finish with the damages that they have to have the street "open from end to end".

The works, financed by the Autonomous Community, have an allocation budget of 216,926.87 euros and a deadline of nine months.

They began on April 9 of this year so they should end in January 2019. However, they have been paralyzed for 14 weeks (since the end of August) due to a conflict between the City Council and Telefónica on account of the canalization of the line.

In addition, the burying of the low voltage has not been done, which neighbors fear that the conflict with Telefónica will add another one with Iberdrola.

Regarding the placement of streetlights, which have been recovered from the municipal warehouse, the neighbors are outraged because "they have not even cleaned them and come with the remains of posters from the time they were installed elsewhere," said Martin.

"The neighbors do not oppose the use of recycled material on their street, as long as it is in perfect condition," he said.

The objective of the work was to improve the pedestrian safety in Camino Marín de Lorca, providing it with new sidewalks, better lighting and connection with Alameda de Cervantes through a new street whose work is also paralyzed due to the lack of authorization from Adif .

"It was about optimizing pedestrian traffic in the area, which has registered a notable increase thanks to the installation of new public services, but the opposite is happening because it looks like a minefield," said Martín.
