The City Council has accelerated the urbanization procedures to provide the San Cristóbal neighborhood with a new park of 1,024 m2 that will replace a series of degraded buildings (14/12/2018)

It will be equipped with green area and children's area, and will be located in the block delimited by the streets Eulogio Periago, Juan Mínguez and Beato Fray Pedro Soler.

The Town Planning Councilor in the City of Lorca, María Saturnina Martínez, reported that the City Council has given a new impetus for the development of the urban actions that will be carried out to benefit the neighborhood of San Cristóbal.

It is, in particular, to move forward in the processing required by legal regulations to enable a new park of 1,034 m2, equipped with green area and children's area, in the block bounded by the streets Eulogio Periago, Juan Mínguez and Beato Fray Pedro Soler .

This municipal intervention is the most ambitious project of urban planning that has been developed in the area, and will result in the release of a key space to improve the neighborhood, both aesthetically and dotacionalmente.

Satur Martinez has stressed that we are talking about a measure that will replace a battery of buildings degraded and in an advanced state of deterioration, for a place of public recreation, open to all Lorca, also improving the neighborhood from an aesthetic point of view.

The councilor of Urbanism has said that to improve San Cristobal is considered necessary to address a new project consisting of obtaining the Local System of Free Spaces included in the Unit 23, having been found that this is a necessary action to advance in regeneration and revitalization of the neighborhood.

The aim is to provide a comprehensive response to the needs of the area, in a coherent manner, establishing various phases of action that allow the renovation of the real estate park and enjoy green spaces as a dynamic element of social life, avoiding further deterioration and promoting its development .

The execution of these actions can be an example of reference in the synergistic application of economic, social and urban criteria to successfully address the regeneration and enhancement of a neighborhood.

The purpose of the municipal project is to carry out the start of the file of advance obtaining of the lands that make up the Local system of Free spaces included in the reference action unit.

Obtaining and executing the urban planning provisions envisaged in the General Plan and especially the green areas will make it possible to correct existing imbalances, especially due to the lack of green areas in certain areas.

The Councilor for Urban Planning, going into detail, has explained that the tool established by the General Plan pursues the achievement of free spaces and dotacionales for its integration into the urban structure for collective enjoyment by Lorca, and its approach to all citizens.

In this case, the central core of the Barrio de San Cristóbal, there is a lack of green areas, in the case of a compact urban mesh that requires the release of quality spaces.

The plots affected by the present Project have a total area of ​​1,083 m2, which make up the total of the green area and which are divided into three properties.

Satur Martinez explained that the City of Lorca is carrying out various actions in the area of ​​San Cristóbal neighborhood such as the Modification of the General Plan for the implementation of the Health Center in the Unit of Action UA-23 (currently in phase of obtaining the reports), urbanization works for the regeneration of infrastructures of certain streets, isolated expropriatory actions of lands destined to obtain green areas and roads, etc.
