The residents of the Lorca district of San Fernando will return to their new homes after their reconstruction within two months (11/01/2019)

The residents of the Lorca neighborhood of San Fernando will return to their homes on March 11, after its total reconstruction, in which the regional government has invested a total of 8.2 million euros, between the construction of housing and redevelopment of the neighborhood.

This is the "neighborhood zero" of the earthquakes that occurred in Lorca in 2011 in which all the houses were demolished, a total of 232 included in nine buildings, which has meant their complete reconstruction.

The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Patricio Valverde, and the mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, held a meeting today with the neighbors in which they transferred the date of delivery of the keys to the new homes in which they recalled that the action taken carried out by the regional executive in the neighborhood of San Fernando "is unprecedented, has no precedent in the world."

"San Fernando is going to be an example of reconstruction, both from an urban and human point of view, due to the generosity and stoicism of the affected neighbors, to whom we thank for their exemplary attitude during the reconstruction of their neighborhood," the councilor said.

The regional manager also announced that yesterday he received from the Government of Spain the agreement for the extension of rental aid in 10 million euros, remitted months ago by the Autonomous Community.

Patricio Valverde stressed that the regional government is moving forward in the "new Lorca" and recalled that the total autonomous investment amounts to 350 million euros, which, added to local and state funding, will exceed 1,200 million euros.

"The most important effort is being made in the repair and construction of homes and neighborhoods that benefit more than 40,000 residents of Lorca," said the counselor, who recalled that the neighborhoods of La Viña, Alfonso X have already been rebuilt , San Jose, San Diego, Los Angeles-Apolonia, Juan Carlos I Avenue, Barrios Altos, Eulogio Periago and the fairgrounds.

The works of Alameda de Cervantes, Barrio de San Fernando, Santa Quiteria, and San Cristóbal have also been completed, and soon the performances of Avenida de Europa and Cristo Rey-La Salud will begin.

Later, Santa Clara, San Antonio and Jerónimo Santa Fe will continue.
