IU Lorca denounces that La Hoya does not have "or half a pediatrician" to care for 851 children (15/01/2019)

The councilor of Left-United Greens in the City council of Lorca, Gloria Martin, has echoed the complaints that have moved the neighbors of La Hoya, who denounce that this district has "or half pediatrician" to attend to the 851 children between 0 and 14 years old.

It should be remembered that the Spanish Association of Primary Care Pediatrics (AEPap) establishes an optimal ratio of one pediatrician for every 900 health cards.

In the case of La Hoya, the office of this deputation - the most populated in the municipality - has a single pediatrician who attends to part-time children, specifically from Monday to Thursday, only 7.5 hours a week (Monday and Wednesday 12.00 to 13:30 and Tuesday and Thursday from 8.30 to 10.45), which represents 20% of a normal working day, which is currently 37.5 hours per week.

"La Hoya needs the current pediatrician to work in the office full time," demanded Martin, who said it is "outrageous" that parents of this council have to get an appointment for health care for their children "a week for other".

"It is not possible that the medical needs of these minors are covered on the basis that the professional works overtime without paying," he explained.

Therefore, he demanded that this situation be "normalized" in the interests of the quality of care and decent working conditions for the pediatrician and his team.

Martín lamented that there are families requesting the change of health center so that their children are treated with less delay or that they are paying for private paediatrics consultations because "the cuts in sanitary matters are also taking place with the child population".

This is an evident proof of why physicians are reluctant to work in Area III of Health "under conditions of pseudo exploitation", said Martín.

"If they offer you a contract in Murcia full-time or part-time in Lorca, where they will also take advantage of your humanity and responsibility so that you can take hours that no one is going to pay you, with which one are you going to stay?" mayor.

Martín blamed this situation on the director-manager of Area III of Health, Catalina Lorenzo, and on her hiring policy, which is also preventing, for example, from fulfilling the commitment to provide the health center in San Diego with medical personnel. reopen consultations in the afternoon.

"It's as if this lady received incentives to save on staff, when what she should do is put herself in the shoes of the citizens, we imagine that she would not like that someone in her family had to wait fifteen days to be seen by her doctor. "he said.

The IU councilor recalled that residents of La Hoya have collected signatures and have exposed the problem to both Lorenzo, as the councilor of health of the municipality, Maria del Carmen Ruiz, "without that until now they have given no solution."

A pediatrician in Lorca serves 294 patients more than one of Caravaca

Area III of Health, which includes the municipality of Lorca, has the second highest ratio of population assigned by pediatrician of the entire Region of Murcia (one per 1,015 users), just behind the Vega Media del Segura .

Each pediatrician in Lorca and its area of influence, serves 52 more users between 0 and 14 years than the average in the Region of Murcia.

A figure that rises to 294 boys and girls if we compare it with the ratio of the Northwest, to 93 in the case of Murcia East or 84 in Cartagena.

"The political leaders of the Murcian Health Service do not stop saying that we must promote Primary Care to be efficient and quality," said Martin.

But the reality is that we are worse than ever, that patients have waiting lists that in some cases exceed ten days and that the pressure of care is "brutal".

In the case of Area III, users of the public health system also have to deal with an important comparative grievance: "Public health is not the same for a Madrid citizen as for a Murcian, but neither is it the same for a Murcian as for a Lorca, and neither is it for a Lorca center that for those who live in neighborhoods and districts, "lamented Martin.

"We will not tire of demanding the hiring of more professionals and the reopening of health centers and doctors' offices in the afternoon," said the councilor of IU-Greens, who blamed the regional government of the PP to have left "in pictures" public health in the municipality.

"You can see that Fernando López Miras is from Lorca for what he wants, but certainly not to avoid this humiliation for Lorca," he concluded.
