The Department of Equality encourages the Lorca to participate in the workshop on Confidence and Safety of Women in the Network to be held on February 7 in our city (17/01/2019)

It is an activity that will take place in the Local Development Center, considered of special interest to the group, which will offer resources to detect and know how to react to threats such as Cyberbullying, Sextorssion, fraud, addictions and hoaxes.

The Councilor for Equality in the City of Lorca, Juan Francisco Martínez, accompanied by the President of the Federation of Women's Organizations of Lorca, Pilar Fernandez, reported that the Municipal Council has organized a workshop on trust and safety of women in the network that will be developed on February 7 at the premises of the Local Development Center, and whose registrations can be submitted from today and until next January 29.

We are talking about an activity that will be carried out in coordination with the Federation of Women's Organizations of our city.

The councilman of Equality has anticipated that the project that is planned to materialize is marked in order to improve the management and skills of women to use the services offered by new technologies with confidence and safely.

It will deal with some of the possible risks that can be found on the Internet, including a series of recommendations and tips to prevent them, as well as offering some interesting data.

We believe, in fact, that new technologies can bring to society as a whole, the population in general, and women in particular, multiple opportunities and benefits, however, new risks also arise.

As in many other areas, women are more vulnerable to some of these risks: digital gender gaps can hinder access to employment, training or information in general, but there are also new risks of suffering gender violence.

The Network reproduces gender roles and stereotypes and enables new forms of aggression against women.

That is why, in addition to addressing general risks such as, for example, scams or theft of passwords, those related to gender violence will be addressed.

Also, given that women, even very often, are responsible for care in the family, we will address some issues related to minors and the Internet.

In short, we hope it will be useful for the empowerment of women, helping to improve their confidence and security in the Network.

Juan Francisco Martínez has stated that among the issues that will be addressed to offer confidence and security to women on the Net, it is worth pointing out phenomena specifically derived from the use of these new technologies such as Cyberbullying, Sexting Sexual Extortion (Sextorsión), Sexual Harassment of Minors on the Internet (Grooming), School Cyberbullying (Cyberbullying), as well as Technoadications, Frames on the Web (Phishing), Spam (Junk), Hoaxes, as well as Viruses and malware.

Pilar Fernández, meanwhile, explained that this program, called Athena, is committed to promoting confidence and security of women in the network, and part of an initiative of the Institute for Women and Equal Opportunities of the Ministry of the same name, counting with the European Social Fund.

Its purpose is to promote the participation of women in the Information Society, increasing their confidence and security in the use of new information and communication technologies.

The workshop, which is aimed at women with computer knowledge at the user level, will be taught face-to-face in a single 4-hour session.
