The City Council will optimize the path, improve the safety of the bridges and create new lookouts on the route of the Cejo de los Enamorados (21/05/2019)

The work to be done with the program of the County Councils will consist of pruning and cleaning the road, planting and hydrological correction and restoration of signs, lookout, road fences and placement of nest boxes;

while security jobs will be developed by specialized companies

The Local Development Department of the City of Lorca, through the beneficiaries of the Agrarian Employment Promotion Program, framed within the District Councils, will proceed to the adaptation of the route of the Cejo de los Enamorados.

It is a path that begins at the Castle through a path that begins at the Fountain of the Pylons and has an approximate distance of 4.5 kilometers one way.

The work to be done with the program of the County Councils will consist of the following:

Pruning and cleaning the road

Desbroces of low intensity, in sections where the vegetation bursts laterally part of the path box by cleaning the terrain of brush, weeds, elimination of dry bushes in addition to pruning and trimming the bushes that invade the road.

Elimination of dead feet and potentially dangerous trees.

The silvicultural remains will be discarded through their removal to landfill by means of containers, taking advantage of the dead branches for hydrological corrections.

Manual recovery of the road platform, through the removal of natural earth material that has been slipping from the slopes, debris existing on the road platform and that contributed by water runoff, using the land recovered in the gully filling produced by water runoff, with the addition of natural gravel material for landfills in the areas of the road with the highest incidence of platform breakage.

Correction of the affections of material that provide the longitudinal slopes to the platform, by placing existing stones in the area, forming a small containment of the material on the side of the road.

Plantation and hydrological correction

Making small palisades to hold the soil in areas of runoff, using the branches and trunks of fallen trees, removing large volume trunks in containers.

Palisades or palisades are small walls of plant material made with sticks and branches arranged as a wall or plant barrier.

In this way, the sediments of the fast rains that cause so much damage in the forest soil would be collected.

The zone of action would be in the valley of the right, making them along the hollows separated from each other 20 meters, using hand tools and vegetable remains near the area and previously debarked.

Plantation of deciduous trees and native species of shady areas, once the water correction has been made, taking advantage of these plant structures to plant some deciduous and other species in areas close to them to ensure a greater contribution of humidity in times of drought.

Restoration of signs, lookout, road fences and placement of nest boxes

Application of flaxseed oil layer on well-preserved wooden elements, signs and the lookout.

Replacement of the poorly preserved elements and correct anchoring of those who are off-hook or wobbly.

Placement of nests for insectivorous birds along the route, although more especially at the end of the route, I feel this is the only action that we would do near Cejo.

The works, which will be compatible with the leisure-sporting use of the trail, will last for 6 months and will involve 36 workers divided into two phases of 3 months (from June to September and from September to December) with 18 workers in each.

This program is framed within the Regional Councils, launched by the Lorca Consistory thanks to a grant from the State Public Employment Service and the implementation budget amounts to 167,000 euros.

Action to improve the safety of bridges and the construction of lookouts in the "Hiking Route of the Cejo de Los Enamorados"

In addition to the previous work, a series of necessary actions are being planned to increase the safety of the hiker in the bridges existing in the Cejo de Los Enamorados, in order to give greater breadth of step over them.

In total, there are 9 bridges that have a total length of 101 meters.

The intended action is the creation of a metal structure on the bridge itself that respects the water conduction that exists in it, on which a wooden board will support treated that flies on both sides of it, increasing the width of the step up to 1.20 m and placing some wooden protection barriers that give greater security to it.

At the same time it is intended to make a platform, before reaching the end of the route, just in front of the rocky massif, where you can see the magnificent image of Cejo, which gives its name to this route.
