IU claims more categories of sports adapted to people with disabilities in Lorca (11/07/2019)

José García Murcia, local coordinator of Izquierda Unida Verdes Lorca, and Jaime García, member of the candidacy in the recent municipal elections, presented this morning the new sports area of ​​the left formation in the municipality, setting as one of the objectives priority to give more facilities for the practice of sports activities to groups of people with disabilities.

According to García Murcia, the role of this new sports area, promoted by Jaime García, IU candidate No. 5 to the recent local elections, is to strengthen the organizational system of local left formation and give more visibility to the group before Lorca society apart from the work already developed by the two IU councilors at City Hall.

García Murcia has recalled some of the strokes of his electoral program in sports, which will insist throughout the next corporate period: activate and provide more resources to the sports facilities of La Torrecilla with a connection through a greenway with the urban helmet;

a new sports complex in the vicinity of the soccer field of Alfonso Embarre;

and the use of school sports facilities outside school hours.

For Jaime García, one of the priorities of the area of ​​sports that will be responsible, will be to promote the adapted sport as a tool for social integration.

In Lorca there are 9348 people with some type of disability, 10% of the population, and although some initiatives have been developed in our city for people with different abilities, such as the Adapted Cycling Spain Cup, the "Joëlette" impulse by APAT or Futsal Adapted by APANDIS, it is essential to offer more sports activities adapted to them.

Therefore, an essential claim of this new sports area will be to claim that in all sports whose practice is proposed in Lorca, an adapted category of it is offered to people with different physical, psychological or sensory abilities, so that they can be imposed those that have more demand, starting by implementing some of these categories in the next Guadalentín Sports Games, such as table tennis, swimming, athletics, etc.

and go increasing them in the coming editions.

Another demand will be to ensure access to these people existing sports facilities, urging to carry out the works that are necessary for it.
