The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, within the framework of the operation 'COLORÃN', has investigated a neighbor of the Lorca deputation of Cazalla as alleged perpetrator of a crime related to the protection of flora, fauna and wild animals by possession of 21 goldfinch specimens (carduelis carduelis).
The birds have been delivered to the El Valle Wildlife Recovery Center.
In the framework of the 'Plan for control of the capture, possession and illegal trade of finches', civil guards of the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA), during the inspection of a dog farm on a farm located in the Lorca delegation of Cazalla, found several cages that housed 21 specimens of finches birds of the species goldfinch.
The animals, most of them young, were in a state of captivity and without a band.
Its owner could not prove his legal possession, so they were confiscated and transferred to the El Valle Wildlife Recovery Center, located in Murcia.
The training to the song of this type of birds is a traditional cultural practice in the Region of Murcia, although, the finches birds of this species can not be captured without authorization, since they enjoy a generic protection regime in accordance with the Directive. Birds 2009/147 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 30 November 2009, concerning the conservation of wild birds and with Law 42/2007, of 13 December, on Natural Heritage and Biodiversity.
The unauthorized capture, sale, transfer and trade of finches are strictly prohibited.
The researched, the recovered birds and the diligences instructed have been made available to the Court of Instruction of Lorca (Murcia).
