The Craftsman's House, which will open its doors in the coming weeks, will allow to know old traditional crafts (05/09/2019)

The building of the old Baker's Poster is from the 16th century, it occupied the municipal archive until a few years ago, and it was very damaged by the 2011 earthquakes, so it had to be closed.

The Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, together with the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Handicrafts, Francisco Morales and members of the Association of Artisans of Lorca (Artelor) has visited the building of the old Baker's Poster that will house in the next dates of the Artisan of the municipality.

The mayor recalled that "this project from its conception was born with the intention of becoming a meeting and meeting point for the artisans of Lorca, a dynamic and social enclave, which should undoubtedly help us to boost our historic center."

The Councilor for Crafts and Commerce, Francisco Morales, has detailed that this building, a popular building of the Poster, which also housed the municipal archive, has undergone recovery work during the last three years, especially after the structural damage suffered because of the earthquakes of May 2011, and that forced to close it.

Morales has advanced that "in a few weeks these new facilities will open their doors, becoming an incentive more to offer the visitor, but also to Lorca and Lorca who can learn how our artisan ancestors worked the stone, glass, skin or forging".

The mayor of Artesanía has affirmed that "it has been the artisans themselves who, according to their needs, have been designing the spaces of the building that on the ground floor will house a museum with permanent and temporary exhibitions of regional crafts and the different techniques used , while the upper floors will include workshops, meeting rooms and work together with training classrooms in which artisan masters will be able to continue teaching their traditional local crafts that pass from parents to children. "

In addition, the intention is that it also becomes a meeting point with artisans from other parts of the country, as well as other European countries to continue enriching ourselves and learning new techniques they have affirmed since Artelor.

This restoration is included in the Lorca Heritage Recovery Master Plan affected by the earthquakes that took place in the city eight years ago.

The building, which has three elements of Cultural Interest (BIC), as is the case of the shields, dates from the 16th century and was the work of the architect Jerónimo Quijano and was used as a meat, flour and wheat warehouse.

Finally, the mayor said that "the next opening of the Casa del Artesano in the Plaza del Caño, as well as the announcement a few weeks ago of the construction of a new hotel on Alfonso X Street are projects that will help us to return social and economic life to our historic center. "

Francisco Salas, future director of these facilities and José Ortuño, president of the Association of Artisans of Lorca (Artelor) recently elected in his position, also participated in this visit.
