The City of Lorca installs seven 'bike parks' to facilitate and encourage the use of this means of transport healthy and environmentally friendly (03/10/2019)

The Councilor for Mobility of the City of Lorca, Irene Jódar, has taken stock of the activities carried out from September 16 to 22 on the occasion of the European Mobility Week, SEM'19.

Jódar has detailed "throughout the week the traffic lights were disconnected and the creation of a pedestrian priority area on Avenida Juan Carlos I, the awareness campaign in mupis 'PEDALEA POR TU CIUDAD' has also started, as well as a service of free parking for bicycles in Huerto de La Rueda and Plaza San Vicente, managed by LIMUSA, both during the European Mobility Week and the fair week ".

The Mobility Councilor has announced the place where seven new points will be installed throughout the municipality to park bicycles comfortably and safely.

Specifically, it will be in the National Police Plaza, next to the Police Station;

in the Plaza de España, the School of Music, next to the El Ovalo taxi rank, in the Juan Carlos I Avenue, in front of the Ramón Arcas Institute, in the main street and in the Talleres street, next to the health center in the vehicle parking area.

Irene Jódar recalled that "to continue raising awareness about the importance of the use of urban transport, as well as traveling on foot or by bicycle, we have launched, until next October 31, a photographic contest whose main theme is' Sustainable Mobility in Lorca 'and covering all its modalities: mobility on foot, by bike, by public transport, by private vehicle and recreational mobility Registration is free and anyone who wants it can be submitted to this contest regardless of their age, place of residence and nationality ".

"The only requirement is that the photographs are made in Lorca. Each participant may submit a maximum of three works that may be made in black and white or color, may use level adjustments, and must be original and unpublished. Images must be sent to the email mobility@lorca.es and the prizes will be a first one that will consist of a monthly bonus of access to the Felipe VI Pavilion or any of the municipal pavilions and a second one that will be a photography course of the popular University. Contest are now available for consultation on the mobility portal www.movilidad.lorca.es ", detailed the Edil.

Jódar Pérez also explained that "on September 16 a colloquial talk took place in which topics related to active mobility, pollution and its health benefits were discussed and on Saturday, September 21, the event called 'Ciclovida', a pedestrian and cyclist coexistence in which more than a hundred people participated and with which we celebrated the 'Day without a car' and, also, a Ciclopaseo by LORCABICIUDAD entitled 'Bike lanes of Lorca: lights and shadows ', a practical route in which the existing infrastructures and the need to unite them to create a Network were analyzed ".

The Edil has highlighted "the creation of the 'bi-registry', a registry with which to control and study the bicycle park of the municipality. A voluntary initiative that has been launched nationwide by the Network of Cities for Bicycle, RCxB, with which the bicycle owners obtain a badge, a kind of registration with which it is intended to prevent theft or loss.This registration can be made on the website wwww.biciregistro.es and will be validated in any of the established offices that will appear detailed on that same page. "

Jódar has once again highlighted the importance of "gradually reducing the use of the car to reduce pollution levels in the city and also raising awareness of the benefits of traveling on foot or using the bicycle."
