IU-Verdes asks Lorca's congressional candidates to express their commitment to forgive the interests of earthquake aids (06/11/2019)

The councilor of the United Left-Greens, Gloria Martín, has asked the Lorca candidates to the Congress of Deputies to express their electoral commitments with the platform affected by the return of earthquake aid.

Martín has asked Marisol Sánchez (PSOE), Antonia López (PP) and María Giménez (More Country) to explain what initiatives they will carry out, and in what timeframes, to solve the problem that affects this group in case of obtaining a seat after the General Elections to be held next Sunday.

In that sense, the councilwoman of IU-Verdes recalled that the remission of the interests that correspond to the State, derived from files for reimbursement of the grants granted for home repair, is pending.

A measure that this political formation has been claiming for more than two years and is quantified at about 456,000 euros.

"We understand that the delay in the processing of the aid is not attributable in any way to the victims and that is why it is a matter of justice that, like the Autonomous Community did, the State waives to collect those amounts," said Martin.

On this matter the councilwoman of IU-Verdes also explained that the current acting Government did not contemplate in the failed draft of the General State Budgets for 2019 any item destined to forgive these late payment interests.

However, in the first additional provision of the Budget Law, the one of 400 million appeared to the Valencia 2007 Consortium for a debt that it maintains with the Official Credit Institute (ICO) for the investments made for the celebration of the 32nd Cup America.

Martín explained that he has contacted the head of the Podemos Podemos list for the constituency of Murcia, Javier Sánchez Serna, who has assured him that one of his first actions as a deputy will be to present a parliamentary initiative to achieve said remission.

Another of the measures that depends on the Government of Spain is the modification of the decrees that regulate the aid in order to extend the reconstruction and repair deadlines for damaged homes.

IU-Verdes also requires another modification that allows residents to demonstrate that they spent all the money from public aid and the Compensation Consortium in the repair of their homes that can justify them through the Autonomous Law 8/2019, approved on last July

Regarding this matter, Martín recalled that there are only two months left before the deadline available for those affected to take advantage of the simplified supporting report and that the Ministry of Development continues to fail to comply with article 2 of this rule.

“The Law says that it will also be applicable to the files whose amount of the aid in any case is of such amount that, in isolation or in concurrence with other aid or compensation, it exceeds the real cost of the works,” explained Martín.

However, those affected by this case are still not receiving any notification from the Ministry of Public Works that allows them to take advantage of this route.

In this regard, he recalled that it is this body that has the obligation "by Law" to require the grant recipients to present the justification account, and that this breach was what forced the extension of the term for another six months.

In addition, Martín denounced that the files affected by prescription also remain closed.

For all this, the councilwoman of IU-Verdes has requested, on behalf of the affected platform, a meeting with the Director General of Housing, José Francisco Lajara Martínez, to discuss all these issues.

"We cannot understand that two months after the Law expires, the Joint Commission has not been convened to address these and other issues, so we have no choice but to take the initiative again," he said.

Gloria Martín also asked the Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, to report on the status of processing of the reports and on the technical visits made to the homes, as well as instruct the Earthquake Office so that all those affected may demonstrate that the aid and compensation did not exceed the real cost of the works, may submit documentation that allows them to qualify for the Law before next January 25.
