The Eurodiputada de Unidos Podemos, Sira Rego, has committed today with Izquierda Unida-Verdes Lorca to bring to the European institutions two important issues for the municipality.

The first initiative will be addressed to the President of the Audit Committee of the European Investment Bank (EIB), John Sutherland, to report on the loan of 185 million euros for the reconstruction of Lorca after the earthquakes of 2011. "We want this independent body, which is responsible for verifying that the Bank's operations are carried out correctly, check how the loan has been managed and if the money has been used properly. "

For years, IU-Verdes Lorca has been unsuccessfully demanding an audit of the EIB loan after denouncing that part of the money has been allocated to infrastructure in other municipalities in the Region, such as Mazarrón, Águilas or Cartagena.

"It is necessary to clarify the destiny of the loan in its entirety, as well as to know in which state the works that remain to be carried out are found, some of them still to be tendered despite the granting of five extensions," said the MEP.

On the other hand, Sira Rego, through "permanent contact" with the local group of IU-Verdes, will channel neighborhood demands from the different districts of Lorca that fight against depopulation in the European Parliament.

"We are aware that this situation produces imbalances and a significant inequality of opportunities and access to basic public services, which must be corrected by public policies."

The MEP was interested in the projects that the affected neighborhood groups want to implement, such as the Spartary Federation of the Highlands, and is committed to reaching European institutions as an example of good practices for the development of the rural environment with the aim for them to get financing from European funds.

Sira Rego will participate this afternoon in a public event in the Plaza de Calderón (7pm) with Javier Sánchez and Esther Herguedas, candidates for Congress by the United Podemos coalition.

Before, they have visited the zero zone of the earthquakes, in La Viña, to check the rehabilitation status of this popular neighborhood of Lorca.
