Gloria Martín has pointed out that, in just a few weeks, the City Council has spent 23,000 euros in renting chairs.

The councilor of the United Left-Greens, Gloria Martín, has again insisted on the need for the City of Lorca to improve the allocation of resources and rationalize public spending.

Martín explained that in the relations of invoices derived from a minor contract approved by the local Government Board, expenses amounting to almost 23,000 euros appear only for the rental of chairs for the celebration of a children's event in the Alameda de los Columns and for a dozen parties in neighborhoods and councils.

In this regard, he said that at the price of 8 euros that has a resin chair in the market, the City Council could acquire more than 2,800 only with what has been spent in a few weeks.

"With what would be saved in a whole year gives to buy an arsenal, have them conveniently stored and cover the costs of placement by strengthening the municipal workforce," he said.

Martin has lamented the lack of effort to limit the outsourcing of services and supplies that, together, represent tens of thousands of euros each budget year that could be used for other more pressing issues for citizens.

Although this type of expenses can be seen in all the departments, Martín has especially encouraged the head of Festivities, José Ángel Ponce, to "take a turn" in the contracting model related to popular festivals.

The number of parties that are celebrated in a municipal area as wide as Lorca involves an important management effort, coordination between the different areas of the City Council and the latter with the different party commissions, in addition to an important economic expense.

Therefore, the councilwoman of IU-Verdes has asked that the possibility of establishing a single contract for the management of all the services required by these celebrations be studied.

"We believe that this would allow us to save and, in addition, considerably increase the quality of the activities, services and shows scheduled," said Martin.

In fact, in Níjar (Almería) a saving of 50% has been achieved in the celebration of its 24 parties through this same formula.

In addition, Martín reminded the Councilor of Celebrations of the agreement signed between the Federation of Neighborhood Associations and several political parties, including the PSOE, on the implementation of objective criteria in the distribution of subsidies for the celebration of popular festivities in neighborhoods and districts .

"We hope that Ponce will end the discrimination and favoritism that has prevailed in recent years and that it will launch a fair and transparent distribution of resources so that associations, which are those that maintain life and culture in our neighborhoods and towns, can know in advance the budget allocated for the celebration of their celebrations and cultural activities, "he concluded.
