Mateos recalled that “according to tradition there is a great link between the Patroness of Lorca, the Virgin of the Huertas, and the armed forces since the troops that marched to the conquest of the Castle were entrusted to this image, which originally originated it was a small size and that Alfonso X himself brought from Toledo. â€

The legend of the reconquest of the Castle of Lorca by the Christian army in the mid-thirteenth century tells that "Prince Alonso de Castilla in front of the troops, who, after the fight, knelt before the image of a virgin who was waiting for him , and that he had taken with him in his horse's box.

He ordered that a temple be erected in his honor, to which he had been named as Divine Captain: Santa María La Real de Las Huertas. "

For the president of the Brotherhood of the Virgen de las Huertas, Isabel Giménez, it is “a great news to be able to count again with the police escort in all the acts and events that our Patron performs outside the Shrineâ€.

For his part, the chief commissioner of the Local Police of Lorca, José Antonio Sansegundo recalled that “the gala costumes date from the early 70s and will be worn alongside other uniforms that they have depending on the importance of the events "

According to Morente, "recovering this tradition is another step within the intention we have" from our body to continue being an active part of Lorca's society, with its idiosyncrasy, traditions and cultural manifestations, making work and more visible and close the work of our agents â€.

The Commissioner of the National Police Corps, Pedro Montiel, has been "very honored that they count on us to accompany the Patroness of Lorca, the Virgin of the Huertas."

And he added that "in this way we can continue to be closer to the citizens of Lorca, and their traditions."

In addition, from the Brotherhood of the Virgen de las Huertas, a medal of the Virgin will be given to both the National Police and the Local Police to carry their pennants that “are being designed expressly for themâ€.

Among the acts in which the Patron will be guarded by local agents, the traditional ones that take place during the month of May, outside the Sanctuary, in which she will have escort service, in other activities, the Virgin of the Huertas will be accompanied by the Local Police with the half-gala costumes and in others they will do it as will be the case of the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of their coronation.
