The Popular Party proposes to incorporate pictograms in the pedestrian crossings of the municipality (14/11/2019)

Pictograms are simplified visual representations that help people with communication difficulties relate to their environment.

They also represent the fundamental basis of the learning process of anyone with this disorder.

The councilor of Oenegés in the City of Lorca, Mayte Martínez, has proposed that cognitive facility pictograms be installed in municipal buildings and crosswalks, with the aim of continuing to work to improve accessibility in the city.

It is an initiative that includes precisely the approaches of the Astrade and Asteamur associations, groups that have been working on the care of people with Autism and Developmental Disorders.

From the PP we believe that this measure will help especially people with autism or similar.

This initiative, which has been launched in other cities in Spain, has meant a very important advance for inclusion for those who have autism, as it allows them to move easily through the places that have such signage and contributes to They can cross the crosswalks without danger.

This measure would be an important advance to make Lorca a better city, allowing people with autism to associate mandatory signs of compliance.

What we propose is to proceed to the installation of pictograms, a measure that would be especially important in the pedestrian crossings of the schools of the municipality, with the aim of facilitating the identification of actions or signs on public roads for people with difficulties to understand and communicate with written and even oral language.

Among them, people with cognitive or language difficulties such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger's syndrome, intellectual disability or with altered sensory perceptions, or neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's or aphasia among many others.

Pictograms are simplified visual representations that help people with communication difficulties to relate to their surroundings.

They also represent the fundamental basis of the learning process of anyone with this disorder.

With the incorporation of these elements, it seeks to promote the autonomy and independence of people with disabilities to move around the municipality.

The four pictograms (stop, look, stop and cross) will have a better relationship with the environment of the people in our municipality who suffer from ASD.

Pictograms are useful for young children, older children with cognitive loss and even those who do not speak our language.

All of them require the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication Systems (SAAC), based on forms of expression other than spoken language: a system of symbols, both graphics (photographs, drawings, pictograms) as words or letters.

In this sense, signaling with pictograms is used to convey a message of immediate understanding since they are clear and precise, so that the person can understand them instantly.

The general objective of this initiative is to advance universal accessibility and equal opportunities for people affected with autism spectrum disorders, or other communication problems, while raising awareness in society.
