The City of Lorca completes the rehabilitation work of the Chapel of the Miraculous Virgin of the San Francisco de Asís School (20/11/2019)

The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, has handed over the historic chapel to the members of the cooperative and to the association of former students of the center.

The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, along with the Councilor for Local Development, Isabel Casalduero, have delivered the newly rehabilitated Chapel of the Miraculous Virgin to the directors and teachers of the San Francisco de Asís School as well as the association of former students of the center.

Mateos explained that "the rehabilitation of the chapel has been carried out by the students who make up the Mixed Program of Employment and Training" Agora "and the corresponding to Local Public Employment, for long-term unemployed, specifically, 14 students and 2 monitors that have been in charge of the work of masonry, decorations and consolidation of the Workshop in wood and decorative works as well as electrical improvements through electrotechnical and telecommunications facilities.

The First Edil has detailed that "the masonry team has worked to achieve ventilation in the wall of the facade, the replacement of the cement in poor condition and the marble plinth; as for the carpentry work, they have proceeded to the adjustment of windows and reinforcements of existing furniture and it has also been equipped with a new electrical installation and low-energy lighting, giving the chapel a better light efficiency.

Mateos Molina has highlighted "the consolidation and reintegration of the paintings in the chapel, after remediation of cracks and fissures in walls and vaults, by injection of lime mortar grouts at low pressure and consolidation of the plaster vaults."

The mayor wanted to thank the school "both the trust placed in the City of Lorca, the Department of Local Development and students who are trained in their different programs to carry out the restoration of this historic chapel with great sentimental value, as well as the investment in the materials used since it has been carried out by the San Francisco de Asís cooperative as well as the Association of Alumni of the College ".
