The Department of Youth has collaborated in this activity, which took place this past Friday, and in which, among others, students deposited organic waste in different wastebaskets, to quantify the food waste that is generated in the yards of said educational center.
The Councilor for Youth, José Ángel Ponce, has informed that, from the City of Lorca, through this council he has collaborated with IES Ibáñez Martín on the day "Food is not thrown away. Let's be the generation that stops climate change" , which took place last Friday, January 31.
The mayor of Youth and Health has detailed that "the objective of this day was to contribute to a change in attitudes among students to educate them on the importance of reducing waste and addressing the need to limit environmental pressures."
Ponce Díaz explained that "during this past Friday, various activities were carried out with the students of the Ibáñez Martín Institute, in which they highlighted the creation of a mural with reviews on the Sustainable Development Goals set by the 2030 agenda. In addition, waste was collected organic that the students deposited in different wastebaskets, to quantify the food waste that is generated in the courtyards of said educational center ".
The councilor stressed that "this experience has been very positive and, at the same time, rewarding to observe that students are very aware and motivated, in terms of waste and waste management, and it has been demonstrated, when checking a very low volume of them, and hopefully it can be repeated again. "
Ponce Díaz recalled that "it is estimated that one third of world production is wasted every year in the world. Without a doubt, food waste is a missed opportunity, not only, to combat hunger and improve the level of nutrition of populations more disadvantaged, but to reduce finite natural resources, such as water, land and marine resources used in the production of these foods. "
