The City of Lorca is already working on the development of a municipal protocol for action against possible environmental pollution episodes (05/02/2020)

This morning the Municipal Air Quality Commission met, which was established at the end of last July, and which is composed of the mayor, among others, representatives of the Local Police, the Municipal Emergency Service, the councils of Health, Environment, Urban Planning and the Municipal Press Office.

The Councilor for the Environment of the City of Lorca, José Luis Ruiz Guillén, has informed of the meeting of the Municipal Commission of Air Quality that has been held this morning.

The Councilor for the Environment has indicated that "the objective of this meeting of this body that was created at the end of last July is to create a protocol for action in those cases in which the permitted levels of contamination are exceeded."

José Luis Ruiz Guillén has detailed some of the issues that have been addressed in this meeting as "the establishment of the issues that should be included in said protocol such as the location of the parking lots or the launch of shuttle buses for the transfer of the citizens".

In this meeting, José Luis Ruiz Guillén and of Emergencies and Development, Isabel Casalduero, and representatives of the Local Police, of the Municipal Emergency Service, of the Department of Health and Environment, participated in addition to the Councilors for Environment and Urbanism , Urban Planning and Communication Cabinet.

The mayor of Environment has remembered the basic and preventive measures, to maintain the quality of the Lorca air in the best conditions, such as lowering the heating temperature in houses and public buildings, the shared use of private vehicles, as well as the commitment by the use of urban public transport, avoid the burning of stubble and agricultural margins or the use of dissuasive parking on the outskirts of the city. "

The intention, as highlighted by the Councilor for the Environment, is that Lorca can have as soon as possible its own Protocol of action against environmental episodes of contamination by Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Suspended particles (PM10), Ozone (O3) and Sulfur dioxide (SO2).

Ruiz Guillen recalled the level 2 episode a few weeks ago in our city when there was an increase in PM10 levels due to a strong intrusion of Saharan dust.

And he has detailed that "the Pm10 are small solid or liquid particles of dust, ashes, soot, metal particles, cement or pollen, that pollute the air and that can affect people with respiratory problems that is why the importance of following these tips" .
