An IU-Lorca councilor is cited for a first consultation with the surgeon in January 2021 (10/02/2020)

Pedro Sosa has related his personal experience for which, on November 18, 2019 he was summoned for January 20, 2021. He hopes that his case will serve to give visibility to the thousands of residents of the region who live "in the distress "for" months and months "waiting for a diagnosis and a treatment that improves their quality of life

The councilors of IU-Greens in the City of Lorca have again denounced the "infamous" waiting lists that affect users of Health Area III.

The spokesman of this municipal group, Pedro Sosa, has reported his personal case whereby, on November 18, 2019 he was summoned for a first consultation with the general surgeon on January 20, 2021.

Sosa underwent an ultrasound on November 13 where he was detected with injuries that should be ruled out of a glandular origin, according to the medical report.

However, the definitive diagnosis and surgical treatment will not be carried out, at least, within 14 months, which is the time that must remain on the waiting list.

The IU spokesman who has assured that he is "pulling" with painkillers, has wanted his personal experience to give visibility to the thousands of residents of the region who live "in anguish" for "months and months" to the expects a diagnosis and a treatment that improves their quality of life.

In this regard, he has demanded that the regional authorities invest what is necessary to end the "unbearable" waiting lists in Area III, which are "the worst in the entire Region" and turn the residents of Lorca and its region into "citizens of third".

Sosa has also addressed the mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos (PSOE) and the councilor of the branch, José Ángel Ponce, who has asked for "more belligerence when defending health rights" and who has demanded "less contemplation" with the new area manager, Enrique José Casado.

"We want facts and not good intentions, so we are worth nothing but acting immediately to end waiting lists that are terrifying," said Sosa.

The IU spokesman has lamented that Mateos has moved away "from the front line of the banner" now that he is mayor and has demanded "much more forcefulness" on an issue on which the life of his neighbors depends.

For his part, his partner in the municipal group, Gloria Martín, recalled that, according to current regulations, the maximum terms for access to health services of a scheduled and non-urgent nature in the Region of Murcia are:

Surgical interventions: 150 calendar days.

First consultations of specialized attention: 50 calendar days.

First diagnostic / therapeutic tests (CT, MRI, ultrasound, mammography, endoscopy, hemodynamics, echocardiography and ergometry): 30 calendar days.

Therefore, he has encouraged all people who are in the same situation as Pedro Sosa to initiate a complaint procedure.

To do this, and once the deadlines for exercising their right have been exceeded, those affected must request a guarantee certificate in the admission unit of the Rafael Méndez hospital.

The Murcia Health Service must provide health care within the maximum deadlines.

In the event that the maximum applicable term is exceeded without the patient having been treated at the center determined by the Murcia Health Service, he may require assistance in another center of his choice, within the territorial scope of the Region of Murcia, under the Murcian Health Service.
