The PP proposes the creation of new Canine Parks (10/02/2020)

The popular remind that both the National Law for the Protection and Defense of Pets and the Municipal Ordinance in force include that the City Council will enable this type of space

Lorca has three, authorized by the PP government

The councilor of Health in the City of Lorca by the Popular Party, Mayte Martínez, has proposed this morning to the current mayor to take the necessary actions to enable new dog parks in new enclaves of the urban area, given the good acceptance with the which are those that were made available to Lorca by the government of the Popular Party in the neighborhood of La Viña, Plaza Virgen de Amargura and San José Park.

The popular councilor recalled that this is to continue advancing in compliance with the Municipal Ordinance on protection and possession of pets, which in its article 27, and in line with article 5 of Law 10/1990, of 27 August, for the Protection and Defense of Companion Animals, contemplates that "the City Council will enable in the gardens, public squares or parks, suitable spaces, duly signposted, for the walk and recreation of the animals, and emission of excreta by the themselves. "

Mayte Martínez has explained that there are currently more than 16,440 cool dogs in our municipality, whose owners need properly equipped spaces to take their pets for a walk.

These data of the Animal Identification System of the Region of Murcia, channeled by the Official College of Veterinarians, show that it is necessary to continue with the work undertaken by the PP.

In fact, this is the initiative we propose to the current mayor, giving him the opportunity to show the degree of commitment he has with this issue.

We are talking about areas for the recreation of dogs that have circuits equipped with elements to practice exercise, as well as drinking fountains, bags for the collection of bowel movements and wastebaskets.

From the PP they have recalled that there are currently 3 canine parks, being the one located in the Plaza de la Virgen de la Amargura the largest.

It has an area of approximately 170 m2, located on the side of the park furthest from the children's area, and, together with the elements of the pet circuit, it has a mural decoration of urban art with canine motifs.

We are talking about areas that can be bounded with guarantees and on which there is greater citizen pressure to reconcile canine presence and use by citizens.

In the park of San José, there is an area with an area of 100 m2, located on the side furthest from the playground, while in the Park of La Viña, an area with an area of just over 100 m2, located at the opposite end of the playground, next to the gerontogimnasia area.

These enclosures also have a water trough and "Sanecan", wastebaskets to deposit the excrements of the animals with a bag dispenser so that the owners can use them.

Mayte Martínez has indicated that the presence of companion animals in Lorca's homes has increased significantly in recent years.

This phenomenon has resulted in an increase in the requests of the owners regarding the provision of services by the City Council aimed at pets (litter bins and bags to collect excrement, specific areas for recreation ...) They have also raised complaints from people who do not have animals and even their presence in certain public spaces bothers them.

We are talking about a situation that makes it necessary to enable canine recreation areas in order to improve citizen coexistence.
