IU-Verdes Lorca asks that the benefits of the installation of a biomethane plant in Lorca be allocated to the Highlands estate (12/02/2020)

The councilor of this formation, Gloria Martín, recalled that the City Council has "a pending debt" with the residents of the Highlands and that one of the great challenges of this corporate mandate must be to lay the foundations for the development of these peoples and stop his depopulation

The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martín, has requested that the benefits that the City Council could obtain from the sale of municipal land for the installation in Lorca of a biomethane plant, be allocated to the start-up of the industrial estate in the Lorca Highlands.

Yesterday there was a meeting between the representatives of the company interested in the construction of this plant in Lorca and the municipal groups.

Martín said that it would have been preferable to keep the negotiations on a "discreet" level until the agreements materialized.

But while this same morning another municipal group in reference to VOX has chosen to offer a press conference to assess that meeting, its political formation has also been forced to position itself.

"We do it with the intention of promoting this project that seems good for the municipality and whose benefits for the city council should result in the neighbors that have been its main drivers," he said.

In that sense, Martín explained that although initially the company was interested in settling in the Highlands, there are other municipal lands with the necessary environmental qualification that would expedite the implementation of this activity.

"We respect the criteria of the company but we would not like the neighbors of the northern towns to see an investment that they have driven and that ultimately could not bring them any direct benefits," said Martin.

Therefore, the councilor of IU-Verdes has asked the mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, that if this initiative comes to fruition, the benefits obtained by the City Council from the sale of the land and the appropriate licenses are allocated to the implementation in motion of an industrial estate in the Highlands, which for IU-Verdes is "a priority action" that has been sleeping the dream of the righteous for years. "

Martín recalled that the General Plan contemplates a reserve of industrial land in this area but is not developed, so "no one will come to install your company on a bench without a minimum infrastructure to provide service."

The councilwoman of IU-Verdes recalled that the City Council has "a pending debt" with the residents of the Highlands and that one of the great challenges of this corporate mandate has to be "lay the foundations for the development of these peoples."

For this, it is essential to allocate public resources that aim to diversify the economy of the area and create new employment opportunities to tackle depopulation rates and encourage younger generations not to leave the territory.

Martin described as "positive" that the municipal government team has requested the autonomous community to include the Lorca Highlands in the regional Bureau against Depopulation, but said the first to set an example has to be the City Council "to through investments. "

"The neighbors are tired of debates and theoretical frameworks and need more actions and fewer words," he said.

For all this, Martín opted because in the memorandum that must be signed between the company and the City Council to advance this project, there is a record "black on white" of what will be the destination of the resources that the session will obtain for this operation.
