El Paso Blanco celebrates the XXV anniversary of the first Museum of Artistic Embroidery, the muBBla (18/02/2020)

El Paso Blanco presents a battery of activities to celebrate the XXV anniversary of its Embroidery Museum, the muBBla, opened in 1995 in the old convent of Santo Domingo, being the first museum of artistic embroidery and the only one related to Holy Week in Lorca .

The activities organized by the brotherhood to carry out throughout this 2020 will cover various areas: concerts, children's activities, exhibitions of painting, photography and embroidery, and other types of actions aimed at bringing the heritage of the White Pass to citizens, as a very special Museum Night.

The first activity will take place on March 4 at 8 pm with a concert by the clarinet quartet "Roy Jowitt Clarinet Quartet", a music chamber group whose components share an English sound inspired by the classes of masters Roy Jowitt and Juan Esteban Romero.

On March 7, activities will continue with the first session of the Infant School of Butlers, which, on the occasion of the anniversary, will be held in the museum and in which children will know firsthand the ins and outs of the embroidery and exhibition the House of the Step.

In this way, El Paso Blanco will continue to carry out activities throughout the year to commemorate the XXV anniversary of a museum of great importance to our city.

Currently, the girl has more than 1,500 pieces embroidered by hand in silks and gold, among which six embroideries declared of Cultural Interest, which can be admired in the Chamber of Wonders.

Its headquarters are located in the old Church of the convent of Santo Domingo, built during the 16th century and where the Dominicans had their initial headquarters.

Already in the year 1707 began the construction of the Chapel of the Rosary, with access from the fourth chapel on the side of the epistle of the church.

The confiscation of Mendizábal resulted in the private management of the old convent church, blinding the connection with the Chapel of the Rosary, which remained in the hands of the Brothers of the Rosary of Lorca.

It was in 1985 when the White Pass, under the presidency of Mr. José María Fernández Pallarés, acquired the abandoned and ruined building with the firm purpose of restoring it and turning it into a museum.

The adaptation as a museum institution was a series of actions: the main nave became the Noble Room of the muBBla;

the side chapels, in exhibition spaces;

and in the place that formerly occupied the head of the church, a practical building was erected, of which a part served to expand the museum, becoming the Chamber of Wonders.

The festival was finally inaugurated on April 1, 1995 and since then it has starred in innumerable exhibitions and events, being a pioneer in celebrating the Night of Museums in our city, hosting the curtain of the War Theater on two occasions, and hosting the celebrations Religious and the stature of Our Lady of the Bitterness during the restoration of the Chapel of the Rosary after the earthquakes in 2011. With this great trajectory, in 2012 the muBBla became part of ICOM, International Council of Museums.

The Paso Blanco Embroidery Museum has witnessed and part of the evolution of our city, so we encourage all Lorca to celebrate with us these 25 years embroidering it.
