The Association of Solidarity Families with the Belarusian People seeks to welcome children affected by the Chernobyl nuclear accident during the summer months (18/02/2020)

The mayor of Oenegés de Lorca, María Dolores Chumillas, recalled that "these minors are in large part of families with little purchasing power who cannot afford even a few days of vacation in other places, away from those contaminated territories of radioactive substances."

The Councilor of Oenegés, María Dolores Chumillas, presented, this morning, together with the president of the Association of Solidarity Families with the Belarusian People, Pedro Javier Guevara, a new edition of the temporary reception program for boys and girls from different Belarusian regions You can spend the summer months here.

The councilor of Oenegés has indicated that "the Association of Solidarity Families with the Belarusian People is looking for families from Lorca or from neighboring towns that can accommodate about twenty boys and girls between 7 and 10 years of age during the two summer months , to give them a healthy environment away from lands that are still very affected by the consequences of one of the most serious nuclear disasters in history. "

María Dolores Chumillas recalled that "these Belarusian children, affected by the aftermath of the escape at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, during the summer in our city and with their host families have the possibility to consume water and uncontaminated food, and breathe air without radioactive load, thus improving your quality of life and reducing the possibility of suffering from conditions such as thyroid cancer, especially the significant decrease in radioactivity that your body shows after spending two months in Spain. "

For his part, the president of this group, Pedro Javier Guevara, explained that "every summer we are lucky to be able to welcome more than 70 children during the summer months, and we ask families to want to repeat, since most of the children have already been in Spain in previous summers, or that they want to live it for the first time to sign up as soon as possible, to be able to be before March, to be able to arrive on time with the processing of all the documents that they require from the different Administrations ".

Pedro Javier Guevara has added that "these selected children belong in large part to families with little purchasing power, many of them at risk of social exclusion. Their parents cannot afford even a few days of vacation in other places, far from those territories completely impregnated with radioactive substances, so that these shelters are the only chance to get away from the area affected by the radiation and give the children's organisms a respite. "

As for the adaptation of minors to our country, Guevara, added that "it is quite easy and they also have four monitors who come from Belarus and are available to families in case of any event, and from the association itself we take care of doing all administrative procedures. "

The children can be welcomed by marriages, unmarried partners, men or women alone, the only requirement is that they want to give the children two months of respite allowing them to enjoy an environment away from nuclear radiation.

Finally, the mayor of Oenegés has encouraged all Lorca to enjoy this experience in which the greatest satisfaction is to see how these children enjoy each other, in addition to the family bond that is created and the humanitarian work that is done. "

It should be remembered that this group has been organizing trips and stays in the Spanish Levante and Southeast area since 1999, in coordination with other associations in the rest of Spain and with the Spanish and Belarusian governments.
