Social Policy supports the ´Carmen´ project that promotes the employability of women in Lorca (18/08/2020)

| The Ministry of Women, Equality, LGTBI, Families and Social Policy allocates 50,000 euros to the Federation of Women's Organizations of Lorca to develop a project | Today the project 'Carmen' was presented, promoted by the Federation of Women's Organizations of Lorca (Foml) with the aim of improving the future of women who are at risk of social exclusion and who are victims of gender violence through of their empowerment, and that the Ministry of Women, Equality, LGTBI, Families and Social Policy finances with 50,000 euros from the funds for the development of the State Pact against Gender Violence. During the event, which took place at the Regional Ministry, the vice-president and counselor Isabel Franco and the president of the Federation, Pilar Fernández Alcaraz, agreed to assess the importance of the resources allocated to this program for the employability of women in a situation of vulnerability in the municipality of Lorca. The Federation of Women of Lorca and the General Directorate of Women have worked to carry out the project whose purpose is to encourage women in situations of personal, social and labor vulnerability to exercise their social and economic rights, minimizing risk situations that lead to them to exclusion, and including the prevention of gender violence. Isabel Franco stressed that "the best social action that can be developed is to give work to an unemployed person, whether it is a man or a woman.

In the case of women and Lorca it is even more justified, given the 60 percent of unemployed women who have the region in the last quarter and 32 percent of Lorca living in rural areas.

Employability is what makes them independent and free to develop their life project.

" Intervention and prevention are the two premises on which the project is based.

Those women who are victims of abuse or any situation of vulnerability will have a specialized team to assist them, as well as a space in which to develop the necessary tools to undertake their personal project through economic empowerment, as part of their process of exit from such situations. The vice president recalled that "on a day-to-day basis there are many obstacles, both personal and professional, that a woman encounters, that is why her future must go through empowerment.

Employment is the best measure to combat inequality and to protect of women against abuse, because an economically independent woman is less vulnerable than a dependent woman at the hands of an abuser ". The 'Carmen' project contemplates carrying out a personal interview, activating self-esteem, acquiring pre-employment skills, approaching real work environments, job placement, promoting self-employment or tutoring as keys to guarantee economic independence of women in vulnerable situations, allowing them to restart a new life away from situations of inequality or abuse. The Center for Attention to Gender Violence in Lorca has served a total of 794 women in the first half of this year.

In this regard, the counselor stated that "we trust that many of them will echo this initiative that will undoubtedly help them feel fulfilled and consequently be happier." Franco concluded the presentation by recalling that "both in society and in administrations we are increasingly aware of this reality and we will continue to collaborate, side by side, with all those who pursue our same goal." The Federation of Women's Organizations of Lorca has a long history and experience that supports it in terms of equality.

It began its activity 27 years ago with the purpose of fighting for an egalitarian society, where everyone starts with the same opportunities, the same rights and no person is discriminated against.

It has 45 federated associations and seven workers.

Every month they promote and carry out a rally against gender violence.
