The Popular Party proposes to start working to meet the Zero Waste 2030 Objective of the European Community (25/08/2020)

| European regulations establish the need and obligation for all municipalities to recycle more than 70% of their solid urban waste by 2030 | The Councilor of Limusa in the City Council of Lorca for the Popular Party, Juan Miguel Bayonas, has asked the mayor of Lorca this morning to instruct his Government Team to start designing actions to meet the Zero Waste 2030 objective of the European Economic Community that establishes that in 2025 65% of packaging waste will have to be recycled, and 70% in 2030 and although we are one of the countries that recycle the most, we are still far from our goals: we barely recycle 30% of plastics while 39% are incinerated and the remaining 31% goes to landfills. Bayonas, has once again recalled that the chaos that the current mayor maintains within the municipal cleaning company, Limusa, has degenerated into that the current local government has done absolutely nothing to comply with Law 22/2011 on waste and contaminated soils.

We are talking about a situation that we have already made known to the current local government on two occasions, but before which they have not done anything, because they have everything stopped.

They have not even had the kindness to respond to the writings on the matter made from the Popular Party dated July 16 and August 22 of last year.

We warned them, but they haven't done anything.

In this case we are going with more time but we must begin to take action or the exact same thing will happen to us. Juan Miguel Bayonas, has highlighted the importance of raising public awareness on recycling and has proposed as the first action to meet the Zero Waste 2030 objective that the implementation of some type of system be studied to encourage citizens to separate and recycle their waste, such as the waste payment methods that are already being promoted in other cities. Specifically, the popular party's proposal is that using smart containers or new technologies, merge the media and mobile technology with recycling.

Thus, when we are going to deposit waste in the yellow, green or blue containers, to separate glass, cardboard and plastics, we find that we can connect with the city council through images, web-app and QR codes, either thanks to these containers or through a website with sending photos of recycling.

The citizen through recycling will be able to receive rewards and exchange them for sustainable incentives. For this, the city council can acquire these smart containers or in a more economic way develop a mobile application in which it is possible to contact the city council and exchange recycling for incentives or rewards. And we have to be more ambitious and take advantage of the advantages of the circular economy, so our proposal is that these rewards or incentives for recycling be used in local commerce and hospitality in the form of virtual money or discounts. From the PP they have recalled that we have managed to make Lorca a city that serves as a reference model for other municipalities in the management of all types of urban waste.

It has been an intense work, planned and whose execution has deserved the recognition of several institutions throughout the last years.

Now we want this work to continue, not to slow down, and to start making Lorca a cleaner city. It is a question that must be carried out to serve as an example to citizens, within the task of social pedagogy on waste that has to be developed by all public administrations.

We are talking about a measure that has a positive impact on all aspects, but has special significance in its social, economic, environmental and ecological aspects.
