Citizens to present a motion in May plenary to protect officials reporting corruption cases Antonio Mecca believes that officials are the best allies for transparent and clean administration (22/05/2017)

The Municipal Citizens group will present at the next plenary session of May 29 a motion on the protection of officials who report cases of corruption.

Councilman Antonio Meca justifies the importance of this initiative: "During the last few years, we have seen numerous cases of political corruption at different levels of government (municipal, autonomous and national), thanks to both the work of the Security Forces and Bodies Of the State, as well as judicial and journalistic investigations. "

In most of these cases, revealing corruption within the Administration has been possible thanks to the courage of public officials and employees who denounce the irregularities that are committed in the work environment in which they carry out their work.

However, on many occasions the fear of reprisals can act as an inhibiting element of the will of public officials and employees when it comes to uncovering alleged irregularities.

"It would be a question," says the mayor of Citizens, "to take a first step to create in our City Council a specific and effective framework to protect the whistleblower of corruption, and it is necessary that this protection extends to the Local Administration" .

Citizens will therefore propose that the City of Lorca study the creation of a framework of protection for employees of the public sector that report on bad practices of public managers and possible crimes of them.

Another agreement proposes that the City Council carry out the appropriate actions to put into operation the procedures, ways and ways of processing the information provided by its staff or that of its autonomous bodies and dependent entities, with respect to the actions they have taken Have been carried out by senior officials or City Council personnel in the exercise of their functions from which malpractices may be derived or a possible crime against the public administration.

It will also propose that the Regional Assembly of Murcia and the Government Council be urged to develop a legal framework of autonomous scope that establishes a framework of legal protection for public officials and employees who report episodes of corruption within the Public Administration .
