Lorca becomes the second municipality of the Region that has a mobility plan

The Ministry of Presidency and Development presented today in the City of Lorca Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of the municipality that aims to give back to people the protagonism lost due to the eruption of motor vehicles, facilitate the connection between the neighborhoods of the historic and the Of recent creation, and reconnect the city with the vegetable garden that surrounds to him.

The mobility plan proposes the development of ten strategic lines, which are grouped into 65 measures, to promote more sustainable modes of transport (bicycle, foot and public transport).

It also aims to integrate motorized mobility, essential in the urban environment, using cleaner technologies, transforming urban spaces and spreading more respectful and sustainable driving habits.

This was explained today by the general secretary of the Ministry of Presidency and Development, Yolanda Muñoz, together with the mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, during a ceremony attended by about thirty representatives of Lorca society, in which he stated that the Plan Mobility is an opportunity to "invent another city, a city of the XXI century, the new Lorca for which we all work".

Yolanda Muñoz reported that this Plan is a "municipal management tool" that helps to efficiently organize the different modes of transportation that are generated within a city, encouraging those who are more environmentally friendly (on foot, by bike, transportation Public) and rationalizing the use of motorized transport, especially the car.

"The mobility plan of Lorca is a living instrument," said the secretary general who recalled that it has been designed in parallel to the regeneration works of the different neighborhoods, "so we already have results from the implementation of these measures," As it is the case of the pedestrian axis of the Eulogio Periago-Avenue of the Armed Forces-Alameda de Cervantes in which the adequate width of the streets has been assured.

This Plan is part of the actions developed by the Autonomous Community to promote accessibility and ensure the friendliness of urban environments in the different cities of the Region, in which 160,000 euros have been invested.

Lorca thus becomes the second municipality of the Region that seeks to improve environmental indicators and quality of life to achieve a sustainable, connected and intelligent city.

Citizen participation

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Presidency and Development stressed that the novelty of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Lorca is that it has been developed "jointly with citizens, in line with the policies of 'Open Government' developed by the regional Executive In all areas of action ".

Muñoz said that "90 percent of the contributions made by citizens have been included in the Plan," and reported that "more than 250 people have made contributions through meetings of the Mobility Table or the four days organized in the last year".

In addition, 2,000 people answered a telephone survey that made a diagnosis of the mobility situation in Lorca.
