The PSOE asks that the regeneration of San Diego between the Avenues of Europe and Armed Forces includes green streets with trees and of semipark character (18/07/2017)

David Romera says it would be a mistake to maintain the current design and structure scheme with a neighborhood with great potential that has become an urban space copied by vehicles and become a huge solana in summer due to the lack of green areas and urban furniture .

PSOE councilor David Romera has requested that the planned regeneration from the EIB loan funds in the San Diego neighborhood, specifically on the streets between the Avenues of the Armed Forces and Europe, including the last stretch Of this and adjacent roads, include an increase of trees and linear green zones in the urban plot and the design of streets with semi-physical character.

According to the mayor, the objective of this proposal "is to improve the quality of urban space, give greater value to the area and create a more sustainable, more comfortable and more pleasant city for neighbors."

The neighborhood, of modern construction, "offers great potential in this sense to change the current model, obsolete and unattractive where the urbanization of the streets has been done by stretches as each developer has been raising his building", without criteria of Uniformity in the installation of urban furniture, which is also almost non-existent.

In addition, the lack of green areas has generated large paved spaces that in summer become "insufribles solanas" for which you can not walk the fruit of an urbanism "irrational that is not intended to be enjoyed by people."

In this sense, the Socialist Councilor considers that the technicians of the Autonomous Community who write the regeneration projects of the neighborhoods of Lorca must take into account those actions that not only involve the renovation of infrastructure and services, but "seize this historic opportunity To create a more pleasant, visually more attractive and more functional city where the commercial and business fabric has a greater role "and avoid what has happened, among other cases, in the Los Angeles neighborhood" in whose streets the initial design is maintained, Not including new green areas and trees that humanize the neighborhood.

In this sense, Romera considers that it is the ideal moment to propose a project of regeneration of novel design in San Diego (sector between Armed Forces Avenues and Europe and railway station) that would pass through three axes:

Create "green streets" or linear corridors of trees and vegetable beds that, besides being an element that enriches and humanizes the urban landscape generating perspectives of greater visual beauty, contributes to refresh the environment in summer, generates areas of shade that are grateful for The pedestrian, generate oxygen, qualify the urban space where it is located and help reduce the high levels of air pollution that our city suffers.

In this sense, the streets of Calcutta, Procession of Silence, Alley of Olcina, Bridge of Churra or Dolores Blaya Cueto present adequate dimensions.

Establish streets with semi-physical character since most of them are unidirectional and the traffic they support is generated by the neighbors residing in them.

Design a boulevard in the Paseo de Guerra street as the main frame of access to the University Campus and be an important commercial center.

In this way, Romera concludes, with our proposals, "we believe that the urban image of the San Diego neighborhood, enhancing the area and the quality of life of its neighbors" would be greatly improved, making it a more modern and sustainable city from the point of view of the city. Environmental view ".
