The Mayor encourages to know the Lorca coastline and highlights the effectiveness of the device established on the coast during the whole summer (19/07/2017)

The First Edil highlights the excellent joint work of the councils of Tourism, Cleaning and Emergencies, which has achieved that this year our coast has the first blue flag in the history of the municipality.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, together with the General Director of Public Security of the Carm, José Ramón Carrasco, and the Emergency Councilman, Juan Miguel Bayonas, have supervised this morning the municipal device established in the beaches of the municipality on the occasion of the Season.

The City Council of Lorca, in collaboration with the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, launched on July 1 the monitoring device of its 10 kilometers of coast.

Likewise since May Limusa is carrying out tasks of cleaning beaches, in addition to conditioning them with tourist elements, so that the coves are in perfect condition for the enjoyment of all citizens.

Fulgencio Gil has pointed out that until 3 September, from 11am to 8pm, 4 lifeguards watch daily the Playa del Poblado de Puntas de Calnegre, while 3 do so in Cala de Calnegre, where there are two available Inflatable boats.

In both, a fixed first aid, surveillance and rescue station has been established, and they also have both amphibious chairs for people with reduced mobility.

Fixed stations are also established with other parallel services such as land mobile surveillance that is carried out by means of a 4x4 vehicle and the maritime one.

The device of the coast of Lorca includes 6 lifeguards and a nurse in the rescue team for the days of maximum influx, in order to be able to attend on the spot any emergency.

Along with the tasks of surveillance, rescue and rescue, the personnel of this Service develops important environmental work in the area, checking for possible fire sources, intervening in the extinguishing of bush fires and rescuing injured animals and cetaceans that may be stranded in beaches.

The Mayor of Lorca recalled that "signaling flags are placed in the respective monitoring and rescue posts, indicating the safety conditions of the bathing places by the colors red (danger and banning of bath), yellow (caution) and Green (security). It should be noted that the Blue Flag Program for beaches, ports and boats is developed by a non-governmental, non-profit organization: the "Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE)", whose branch and manager of its programs in Spain is ADEAC.

The Blue Flag Program began in France in 1985 and has been in Europe since 1987. Subsequently, it expands beyond the European continent when, from 2001, South Africa joins.

Currently, almost 50 countries in the five continents participate in Blue Flag.

The Program strives to promote the sustainable development of coastal areas, through the requirement of high standards in bathing water quality, safety, environmental management, information and education for sustainability.
