The PSOE asks to intensify the tasks of cleaning and maintenance of streets, parks and gardens to offer a more positive image of the city in summer (08/08/2017)

The socialists echo the neighborhood complaints in relation to the lack of maintenance of parks and gardens, and the insalubridad generated by the misuse and the shortage of cleaning in the new areas of recreation for pets installed next to the playgrounds of San José, La Viña and Plaza de la Amargura

The PSOE councilor Andrea Periago has demanded that the PP government team intensify the tasks of cleaning and maintenance of streets, parks, squares and gardens, with the aim of offering a "more positive and caring" image of the city as well during the summer.

The mayor stressed that the lack of cleanliness, combined with dryness and high temperatures, is leaving an "inappropriate" image of those spaces that, he recalls, "serve as a place for leisure and recreation, especially for those who remain in Lorca during his vacations ".

As an example, the mayor has cited the "painful" image that for the second consecutive summer is repeated in the park of San Jose.

The lack of maintenance is reflected in the accumulation of weeds, dirt, as well as the appearance of numerous bald spots on the lawn as a result of increased temperatures and, in many cases, failures in the irrigation system.

Andrea Periago has also highlighted the numerous complaints that are coming from the poor state of the new areas for the recreation of pets, popularly known as pipicanes, recently installed in San José, La Viña and Plaza Virgen de la Amargura.

The mayor recalls that encouraging the good use of these spaces, and keeping among all the care of these parks "we will contribute to the growing number of citizens using these areas for pets, thereby avoiding images of excrement outside these spaces enabled."

For this, Periago has made a double appeal.

First, the City of Lorca, as the main responsible, so you do not forget to keep in a "minimum hygiene and sanitation" these areas and, above all, enforce the ordinance of protection of citizen coexistence, on collection of excrement Of animals on public roads.

Second, they also call for the civic use of these facilities by pet owners.

Periago remembers that the high temperatures accelerate the decomposition of the excrements generating bad odors and the appearance of fleas and ticks, as already is happening.

Hence the "special need" that the City Council does not continue to neglect the cleaning of these spaces and that users also collaborate and do not forget to respect the rules.

Similarly, Periago has asked the government team to review the municipal tree and increase the pruning and maintenance to anticipate accidents such as occurred a few days ago in the Alameda Virgen de la Huertas, where a large branch Of one of the trees in the area fell as a result of the dryness of the tree.

Luckily, without lamenting personal injury.
