The Region of Murcia, specifically the municipality of Lorca, will host next year the International Congress' Catastrophes and cultural heritage.

The recovery of the city of Lorca ', organized by the association Hispania Nostra with the Autonomous Community through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment and the City Council.

The General Director of Cultural Heritage, Juan Antonio Lorca, recently met in Madrid with the president of Hispania Nostra, Araceli Pereda, to discuss different issues, among which the celebration of autumn (October 3 to 5) of this meeting, which will have the participation of experts from different countries, including technicians from the General Directorate of Cultural Assets.

Juan Antonio Lorca explained that "awareness and commitment of citizens and society for the care and recovery of heritage is growing, as are the threats to which it is subjected, either by catastrophes and natural disasters or due to the negligence and inadequate actions of man, a reality in which prevention, planning and coordination are essential to keep our own history alive ".

"Earthquakes, fires, floods or wars are some of these threats, whose effects are to be prevented and mitigated as quickly as possible, as in the case of Lorca and the earthquakes of 2011, since the management carried out a posteriori and the rapid and effective union of the administrations, through the Master Plan for the Recovery of the Cultural Heritage of Lorca, has placed us as an international example of good practices, "said the head of the Ministry.

With the celebration of this congress, the Community joins the commemoration, in 2018, of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.

The meeting will also serve to meet and share similar experiences recently experienced in several countries such as Chile, Mexico and Italy.

The program of the congress will include framework papers and free communications, and will have a prominent role interventions made in Lorca after the earthquakes, the role of the Military Emergency Unit, the Civil Guard, the National Plan for Emergencies and Risk Management in Cultural Heritage and the recent mission of the European Union in Mexico.
