The PSOE calls for a more equitable distribution of Christmas lights to avoid discrimination between commercial areas, neighborhoods and districts (09/12/2017)

The Socialists denounce the improvisation and the poor criteria of the Popular Party when it comes to distributing Christmas lights.

They claim that there are many complaints from neighbors and merchants of neighborhoods and county councils where they have not been installed or have reduced to a minimum Christmas decorative ornaments at a time when the commercial sector records a significant part of its annual sales.

The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, David Romera, criticized the policy carried out from the government team of the Popular Party in regard to the distribution of the extraordinary Christmas lighting in the city and its councils.

Ensures that "there are many complaints that we have been receiving almost daily from neighbors and merchants who live in the neighborhoods of the city and rural areas of the municipality that consider unfair the distribution of garlands and Christmas lights since these or have not been installed in the usual places or have been reduced to a minimum, which is a comparative injury to the center of the city. "

Romera ensures that the presence of Christmas decorations in the districts and councils of the municipality "has been reduced year after year, so that many streets and neighborhoods of Lorca are dark, no Christmas claims, to have only one or two arcs of lights isolated in their commercial areas ".

The Socialist councilor has given some figures that are illustrative and show the face and the cross of a Mayor and a government team that "does not govern the same for all the territories or for all the citizens of Lorca", because it is only necessary "to give one return to the city to check it ".

Report that in the entire San Cristobal neighborhood only 7 arches with Christmas lights have been installed, 7 small ornaments on Avenida de Europa (one kilometer in length), 1 single arch in the neighborhood of Los Angeles, 3 arches on the Avenue of the Armed Forces, one in the neighborhood of Santa Quiteria, 2 in the Virgen de las Huertas, one in the Avenida de Portugal;

just 5 in Jerónimo Santa Fe and 3 in Carretera de Granada (eight arches in almost two kilometers in length), 6 in Pérez Casas and only 2 arcs of lights in the whole Avenue of Cervantes (with a length of another kilometer) in the closer to the Santa Paula Oval, as if there was no commercial activity beyond the road.

It points out that, practically in Juan Carlos I there is the same number of arcs with lights that in all the other arteries of access to the center of Lorca.

The situation of the rural nuclei of our councils is even worse due to the small number of arches placed, which has also generated protests among the neighbors.

In addition to creating Christmas atmosphere, Romera insists that the Christmas lights "fulfill the mission of making the city more attractive to go out shopping, both by the local population as well as the one coming from other municipalities and avoid the flight of customers to the big shopping centers. "

For this reason, it considers that the distribution of lights and Christmas decorations, which are undoubtedly necessary to revitalize the city center, is unjust, but they are also necessary to boost trade in neighborhoods and county councils. municipality".

From the PSOE hope that these allegations serve to "correct" where there is in time this distribution "erroneous" that the Popular Party has done, a year, and has served to accentuate the discrimination they maintain between neighborhoods, districts and areas commercial.

Ensures that the Popular Party has shown, once again, its management "subject to improvisation" and that is the result of exhaustion and lack of ideas.

They demand for the year next to the team of Government of the PP a "more balanced" distribution of Christmas lights between the center and the periphery, and "not to create zones of first very animated and adorned, and zones of second or third that they are boring because they are not attractive and that goes against the merchants ".

Finally, the socialist councilor appreciates that in general the Christmas lighting is "poor, repetitive compared to years before and nothing original" compared to other big cities, because the Christmas lights, insists the councilor, "not only adorn and They also contribute to go out shopping, to consume, and to revitalize a commercial sector that especially in Lorca is being very punished by the crisis and by the endless works of urban regeneration ", being this time one of the most important in terms of sales and income.
