IU-V considers insufficient the regional budgets that Lorca will receive for social affairs (14/12/2017)

Adoración Peñas, councilor for the United Left Greens in the municipality of Lorca has criticized the regional budgets in terms of social policy continue to be continuous and clearly insufficient to alleviate the poverty rates suffered by our region and therefore, our municipality.

Peñas has affirmed that although budgets for social issues have suffered a slight increase, this is too short to solve the serious shortcomings of 40% of Murcia at risk of poverty and social exclusion and once again shows that the PP government understands the social policy as an expense and not as an investment, for which it has demanded a much greater implementation after long years of continuous cuts.

Peñas regrets that the regional government allocate more money to finance the outsourcing of basic services for groups of elderly or disabled through NGOs, than the municipal social services themselves, and that basic transfers to these services continue remaining at the lowest levels in recent years.

The same happens in terms of equality, because the € 2,444,000 in 2018 to combat gender violence, are far from the € 10,700.00 in 2009 or the € 7,800,000 in 2012. Another example is what is intended within the National Program against Drugs, where Lorca does not have a single euro.

And of the one million euros that this year as a novelty will be used to fight against energy poverty, Lorca will only be responsible, despite being the third municipality with more inhabitants of the Region, € 57,000, "a ridiculous amount" taking into account account the current situation.

As for the money allocated to the basic services of social services, which serve the most disadvantaged groups as a result of the crisis, such as young people, women or the long-term unemployed, the € 791,000 received by our municipality for 2018 (38,000 euros more than in 2017), are far from the € 900,000 received years ago and even more than the € 1,500,000 that Cartagena receives for the same concept.

For that reason, the mayor Peñas demands that the budget be provided as befits this service, given the current context of increasing poverty, they need more resources than the current ones.
