The aesthetic renovation of the Plaza Concha Sandoval makes it possible to stabilize the popular sculpture of the embroiderer and improve its gardening, street furniture and ornamental lighting (15/12/2017)

This is a performance in which a total of 21 personnel from different employment and training workshops developed by the Department of Local Development.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, together with the Local Development Councilor, Sandra Martinez, has supervised this morning the culmination of the repair and improvement works that have been carried out in the Plaza de Concha Sandoval, known at the foot of the street as of the Embroiderer.

It is one of the most popular enclaves of our urban center, thanks to its strategic location next to the Palacio de Guevara and at the nexus of Álamo, Lope Gisbert and Musso Valiente streets.

The Mayor explained that these works have achieved a remarkable aesthetic improvement of the square, including one of the priority objectives that led to the decision to execute the work, as has been the consolidation and rectification of the collapse of the soil in the place in which was located the stature that pays tribute to the Lorca embroiderer, which had caused the inclination of the sculpture, mainly due to the cession of the firm.

Fulgencio Gil has indicated that the demolition and removal of debris from the foundation base of the statue has been proceeded, consolidating the land on which it is based and building a new foundation to support the basement, element that has also been renewed.

The Plaza also has a new drinking fountain made of cast iron.

It should be noted that the drains of the source and the aforementioned drinker have been renewed and the drinking water supply pipes that supply the Palacio Guevara have been replaced.

The First Edil has reported that the works have contemplated the improvement of gardening areas available in the square, proceeding to the removal of hedge plants that were sick and in poor condition, being responses to new copies of better performance and acclimatization to the Mediterranean natural environment.

It has also made the planting of seasonal flowers in their beds.

The latter have been renewed by relocating the irrigation control box, replacing the control mechanisms and changing existing irrigation hoses with new ones, improving the distribution of water and optimizing the use of the irrigation water of the aforementioned garden.

Fulgencio Gil stressed that the improvement of the Plaza Concha Sandoval has also included the incorporation of 2 led lights of 25 W for the ornamental lighting of the sculpture of the embroiderer.

The existing banks had a good state of conservation that has allowed them to be dismantled and moved to the municipal workshops, where they have worked to achieve the reinforcement of their stability and repaint them, something that, with black color forge, also has been made with the perimeter railings that protect the garden areas.

The First Edil wanted to highlight the intense work that has been developed to achieve the aesthetic improvement of this square by the beneficiaries of the different municipal employment programs.

Thus, the gardening tasks have been materialized by the 4 agricultural workers of the district councils of employment, while the 9 members of the Entrebarrios workshop have been in charge of the masonry, the 9 of Lorca Efficient of the plumbing, while the interventions of The 9 people of the Flora program have made the painting.

Thanks to the work developed by the students of these workshops, this renovation has hardly cost Lorca 5,200 euros.

The improvement of this enclave is part of the wide range of actions that are being carried out by the Consistory to enhance and improve this area of ​​the city, among which include, for example, the rehabilitation of the Palacio de Guevara (600,000 € ), and the arrangement of the streets Lope Gisbert (1.5 million) and Musso Valiente (500,000 €), as well as the public opening for all citizens of the Guevara Palace garden.
