The PSOE considers that the works of Juan Carlos I are not up to the expectations of Lorca and denounces "incomprehensible damage" (19/04/2018)

The socialists return to blame the lack of control and monitoring of the municipal administration the major flaws that appear along the main artery of the city.

The works, awarded by almost five million euros and managed directly by the City of Lorca, have left out important actions in the Plaza de Colón or Alameda de la Constitución.

The councilor of the PSOE, David Romera, has denounced the "significant damage that can be seen along the main artery of the city", with the aim that "said damages are corrected, during the warranty period, before the City Council to the provisional reception of the works ".

Romera believes that the result of the works "is not expected Lorca because the investment made, much higher than that has led to the urban regeneration of entire neighborhoods of Lorca, is supposed a better result, better qualities, a better execution and an aesthetic according to the characteristics of an open, dynamic and Mediterranean city such as Lorca, in order to revitalize the commercial activity in the area, very decayed ".

In these moments, the main artery of Lorca offers a "cold, sad, dull and gray aspect that has nothing to do with our urban landscape, our light, our climate, or the vital character of Lorca", something that did show the original project.

The socialist mayor says that are widespread complaints from citizens about the damage that appears on Avenida Juan Carlos I, especially those referring to the state of the new pavement, because there have already been some accidents of people who have tripped to find the tiles of uneven granite, creating steps that generate trips and falls of older people.

Likewise, a stroll along the sidewalks of the new avenue, allows us to appreciate how there are stretches without grouting, how there are scratched, misaligned or chipped tiles.

Even "incredible as it may seem", in the section between Floridablanca and Santa Clara, on the left bank, the tiles are placed upside down, arranged parallel to the roadway, as in the rest of the road, appear perpendicular to this;

also different shades of the same color have been placed.

Likewise, the scuppers placed are "clearly" insufficient to evacuate the rainwater of a 900 meter long avenue where the difference in height between the road and the sidewalk will be only three centimeters, which could mean the flooding of portals, garages and shops if torrential rains occur.

On the other hand, "we appreciate how old semaphores are being reused and are being mixed with new ones," and how push-buttons are being installed on pedestrians, which will disable the so-called Green Wave for traffic run with fluency and security. "

In the same way, the socialists consider that "the new system of circulation imposed will generate a circulatory chaos in the main artery of the city, especially in the section between Floridablanca and Santa Clara, betting on the current system of single direction", also waiting that the marquees of urban transport are placed in order to improve the service as well as a renewed vertical signage.

David Romera highlights that "very important performances" have been "incomprehensibly out of execution", such as the remodeling of the Alameda de la Constitución and the enhancement of the mythical eighteenth-century Columns of the former Salitres Fine Mill or the remodeling of the Plaza de Colón, which blames "poor economic planning" as the works were awarded to a UTE with a 20% drop: execution budget, 6.3 million euros;

final adjudication for 4.97 million.

It also considers that the steam locomobile of the early twentieth century that existed in the neighborhood of Apolonia and sheltered next to the Campus, "must be located in the neighborhood of San Cristóbal-San Diego to be linked its operation to the tanning industry and not to railroad or Sutullena station, as the government team believes ".

Finally, Romera believes that the significant damages that are appreciable in Avenida Juan Carlos I are a result, once again, "of the lack of control and monitoring" by the PP Government team, as has also happened in the works regeneration of other neighborhoods such as La Viña, Alfonso X el Sabio or Los Angeles and Apolonia, because "it is incomprehensible that one of the most emblematic and necessary projects for Lorca as was the remodeling of its main artery, is not at the end of the height of the expectations of Lorca, with multiple deficiencies, turning it into a cold and gray street, especially when this work is being managed directly by the City, being therefore greater responsibility.

From the PSOE is expected that in the shortest period of time, all deficiencies are repaired and reminds the PP Government team that "from the PSOE, within the framework of a responsible opposition, a battery of proposals for the project was made Juan Carlos I, none of which was accepted, and intended to make this avenue the great commercial showcase and business of the city, putting in value all its unique elements.
