More than 12,000 pupils take part in Road Safety Week Lorca (24/04/2010)

José Guillén says that "the goal is to educate the youngest about the importance of not taking risks on the road"

The managing director of the Public Transport Authority (EFA) in the Region of Murcia, José Guillén, reported that "more than 12,000 children have participated in the Road Safety Week in Lorca," which closes this afternoon at the Santa Quiteria fairgrounds.

The number of participants in this initiative organized by the city of Lorca and the Public Transport Authority, in collaboration with foundations Antena 3, Mapfre Cajamurcia, has doubled the original estimates and has raised awareness among these future drivers about the importance of not take risks on the road.

"Throughout this week, thousands of children and youth in the region have learned the rules of the road and have been implemented as pedestrians, drivers, passengers and cyclists," said Jose Guillen, who explained that the students "have developed their knowledge and their reflexes tested in an area of 10,000 square meters distributed in different subject areas, which gathered more than 25 activities coordinated by the city of Lorca. "

Children have been involved in animation, drama, games, drills and helmets airbrushing workshops, and attended lectures on road safety awareness and, among other activities.

In the Hall Bus, have received briefings on how to react to a traffic accident and road safety concepts through interactive games with computers and touch screens.

In addition, specific activities were organized for children who are studying in the form of special education.

Some of the actions that have drawn most attention were the mock school buses release made by the fire of the Consortium for Fire Fighting and Rescue, who will explain all the systems of active and passive safety of automobiles and different ways to stabilize and address the type of vehicle accident.

Children also participated in the karting circuit Mapfre Foundation, games of skill and ability have bikes and test your reflexes and driving simulator car and bike.

This Road Safety Week complements the series of initiatives undertaken by the regional government, through the Public Transport Authority, to improve child road safety, such as PAPI Plan (Plan For Child Safety in Public Buses and Private).

"It's about awareness through teaching the little ones on the importance of not taking risks on the road, so they are the children themselves to become prescribers of their parents and peers in road safety" concluded the managing director of EFA.
