The Department of Health of the Municipality of Lorca celebrates the World No Snuff with an information table in the Alameda of the Constitution (31/05/2010)

The Councillor for Health of the City of Lorca, Antonia Lopez, has reported that "this activity is to inform the public of the harmful effects of smoking both for smokers and for those around him."

Snuff consumption is the second-leading cause of death after hypertension, and is responsible for the death of one in ten adults.

The theme of World No Snuff 2010 is gender and snuff, with particular emphasis on marketing to women.

WHO will use this day to draw attention to the harmful effects of marketing and consumption of snuff in women and girls.

The World Health Assembly established the World Day without Snuff in 1987 to draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and its lethal effects.

The celebration of this day is an opportunity to highlight specific messages related to control of snuff and promoting compliance with the WHO Framework Convention for the Control of Snuff.

The consumption of snuff is the leading preventable epidemic facing the health community.

Snuff consumption is a major risk factor for several chronic diseases such as cancer and lung diseases and cardiovascular diseases.

However, its use is widespread throughout the world.

Several countries have laws restricting the advertising of snuff, regulate who can buy and consume products of snuff, and where smoking is allowed.

The snuff is the second leading cause of death worldwide.

Currently causing one of every 10 deaths among adults worldwide (about 5 million deaths per year).

To stay current patterns of smoking, snuff consumption will cause 10 million deaths per year by 2020.

Half of the people who smoke today, or about 650 million people will die of snuff.

Among the risk factors for common disease worldwide, the snuff is in fourth place.

The economic cost of snuff consumption is equally devastating.

Besides the high public health costs related to treatment of diseases caused by snuff, snuff killing people at the peak of their productive lives, depriving families of their livelihoods and nations of a healthy workforce.

The tobacco epidemic kills 5.4 million every year from lung cancer patients, heart disease and other diseases.

To continue that trend, by 2030 the figure increased to more than eight million annually.

Snuff consumption is a risk factor for six of the eight leading causes of death worldwide.
