IU calls for greater commitment for the revival of traditional trade in Lorca (15/05/2018)

The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martin, has lamented the "poor" commitment of the municipal government team of the PP to revive the traditional trade after the damages caused by the remodeling works of the Juan Carlos I avenue, which have been extended for more than a year.

A situation that has occurred previously in neighborhoods such as La Viña, San Jose, Alfonso X or Avenida de Europa and that now suffer neighbors and merchants of the Alameda de Cervantes.

Martín explained that a simple advertising campaign "is not enough" to boost the commercial activity of that and other areas of the city and regretted that the PP is not fulfilling the commitments acquired through its own electoral program.

The mayor of IV-Greens recalled that the PP promised "tax aid" to entrepreneurs and specific measures to encourage the establishment of shops, especially in the historic center.

However, one year after the next elections, these have not materialized.

In this regard, reported that there are municipalities in the region that, in order to reactivate their historic centers or commercially more depressed neighborhoods, subsidize with up to 40% of the works of remodeling of premises that were closed.

Others set up media so that small merchants can obtain financing at interest 0. In the same line, some consistories exempt from paying for opening and activity licenses and establish bonuses of up to 75% on the construction tax to be able to adapt commercial premises in their old quarters.

Another of the unfulfilled measures by the PP is to intervene on the high price of rents.

"Requesting 2,500 euros for the rental of a 147 m2 premises is, in addition to being abusive, a great impediment for people who want to undertake an activity in this area," he complained.

Therefore, Martin proposed the creation of a rental bag at affordable prices in collaboration with the owners of empty premises.

"Penalize those who remain closed was a measure contemplated by the PP in its electoral program, which has not had the courage to start," he said.

For Gloria Martín, the absence of "commercial life" in the historic center and in many neighborhoods of the city is evident proof of the lack of municipal support for entrepreneurs, who do not have the necessary help lines and, therefore, they can not generate wealth or create jobs.

"If we add to this a deficit public transport and the lack of dissuasive public car parks, we are directing potential customers directly to large shopping centers to the detriment of traditional stores," he said.
