The Councilman of Culture stresses that the twinning of the San Clemente Federation and the Moros y Cristianos de Vera reinforces the bonds between two cities united by history (25/05/2018)

The Palace of Guevara welcomed yesterday the act of signing this agreement between two groups that contribute to the promotion of the heritage and traditions of these municipalities, which are sister cities.

The Councilor for Culture and Celebrations in the City of Lorca, Agustín Llamas, congratulated the members of the San Clemente Federation and the Moros y Cristianos de Vera group for the signature of their twinning, which materialized yesterday afternoon. as frame the Guevara Palace.

The Councilor for Culture has said that it is an honor for the city of Lorca to welcome this act of twinning, as simple as it is sincere, that is taking place today between two groups that are close in essence and spirit, but also in terms of the fundamental role they play in each of its municipalities.

A city that turns its back on its history is a foolish, conformist, outdated city.

Only looking to the past, scrutinizing its teachings and transferring them to present times can we aspire to create better populations at the service of their neighbors.

Llamas Gomez has stressed that Lorca and Veterans know how to honor our history.

We maintain our heritage heritage and show it with pride;

we take care of centuries-old traditions and deliver them to the new generations;

and we pay tribute to the past also in a festive way, through the medieval festivals that we commemorate with the representations of Moors and Christians, also Jews in the case of Lorca.

We are sister cities, because that is what we wanted in recent times.

But also because our history offers moments in which both populations intertwine us as would the branches of two neighboring plants.

Lorca and Vera are frontier lands, battle scenarios and medieval incursions, allied in the kingdom of Castile and sisters since the Lorca hosts defeated the siege raised by Aben Humeya on Vera on September 25, 1569, the day of St. Cleopas, since then veratense pattern.

The signing of this document further strengthens the ties that unite through twinning among those groups fundamental to promote knowledge of our history and our traditions: the San Clemente Federation of Lorca and the Moors and Christians of Vera.
