More than 240 Lorca residents in the Barrios Altos benefit from employability courses, social aspects and educational follow-up within the Gypsy Development Plan (29/05/2018)

The Councilor for Family and Social Welfare of the City of Lorca, Fátima Mínguez, has closed this morning the Gypsy Development Plan launched by the Lorca Consistory since November 2017, which has been allocated to 19 families of Roma population, being approximately 244 users.

Fátima Mínguez pointed out that "the actions have been developed around three age groups: adults, youth and children, focusing on educational, employability and social aspects." The general objectives that have been pursued with the development of this Plan have been to raise the educational and social-labor level of the participants in the project and their families, as well as to promote integration and socio-labor integration through training ".

The Councilor for Social Services explained that "in the 6 months that the Gypsy Development Plan has lasted, 244 people have carried out training actions focused on employability and the socio-health improvement of individuals, with an average of 3 courses per user. , although in many cases up to 6 actions have been carried out ".

Mínguez has indicated that "among the formations offered for adults were, monographic courses on social skills and communication for employment, workshops on social networks focused on employment, digital literacy courses through Smart Phone and workshops on domestic and personal skills. As a novelty, workshops on gender equality, food manipulator course, economical and healthy cooking workshops, as well as workshops to encourage reading have also been given, as well as training for young people through workshops on sexuality and sexuality. family planning, and in healthy habits, prevention of the consumption of alcohol and addictive substances, combining it with recreational-sports activities ".

The Social Services Edil has highlighted that "other areas of the City of Lorca have also collaborated in the development of this program, being the same the Department of Employment that has given a classroom with computer equipment in the Local Development Center to provide training where the use of computers was needed, the Department of Health and Consumption, collaborating in the delivery of workshops on health and hygiene, sexuality, food handling and also participated in the XI edition of Healthy Lorca, the Youth Council for the realization of the cooking course, the Department of Education with the loan of adapted books for the animation of reading, as well as the Council of Equality for the implementation of the celebration of the International Day of the Gypsy people.

In turn, the Department of Sports, has made available to users different municipal sports facilities and materials, for the realization of sports activities among young people in these slums, conducted monthly: Introduction to rugby, Body Pum, athletics (sports pitch) and indoor football.

Finally, it is worth noting the entities that have also collaborated in the implementation of the courses, workshops or activities, such as the Vodafone Foundation, the Youth Council of Lorca, the Police Unit of Lorca, Cazalla Intercultural , the municipal libraries of Lorca, the IES San Juan Bosco, the University Campus of Lorca and the University of Murcia, the Integrated Vocational Training Center, UCAM, Fundación Secretariado Gitano and the Rugby Club of Lorca.

Job placement itineraries

The actions aimed at improving the employability of the users of the Gypsy Development Plan have been formed by individualized interviews of users with job counselors;

diagnosis of socio-laboral employability through the study and classification of the professional profiles of the participants according to their training, work experience, abilities, skills and desired work;

realization and delivery of résumés to all users;

collective orientation sessions for active job search, according to professional profiles;

contact with companies that offer work, according to the professional profiles of the users;

inclusion within the agenda of the training sessions sessions on basic personal skills, professional competence, digital skills oriented to the search for employment, improve skills for job search online, etc .., and educational promotion routes.

It should be noted that the number of users who have found work during the PDG 2017/18 has been 19 people.

Work module "Housing and Habitat"

This working group consisted in the assignment to a social worker of 19 families to improve their socio-labor-economic conditions, the follow-up of the family through individualized interviews, home visits to check and report on the conditions of habitability and hygiene of the families. assigned users' homes, improve the habitability and hygiene conditions of the homes of the assigned users, improve the hygiene and health conditions of the common spaces of the neighborhood, realization of a housing map where the habitability characteristics are thoroughly detailed hygiene of municipal social housing and those of the Autonomous Community of the Murcia Region located in the neighborhoods assigned to the project.

Education

A control of school absenteeism has been developed for the children and youth of the sweepings assigned in collaboration with the schools of the CEIP Casa del Niño, CEIP San José, CEIP José Robles, CEIP Andrés García Soler, San Cristóbal Public School, CEIP Alfonso X "El Sabio", Colegio San Francisco, CCMadre de DiosMM Mercedarias, Secondary Education Institute Ramón Arcas Meca and Secondary Education Institute José Ibáñez Martín.

Mediation has also been carried out with families in cases in which school absenteeism exceeded 65% of absences during a month.

On the other hand, collaborations, control and follow-up of the Renacer project, located in the San José de Calasanz School, have been carried out, since some of the users of the PDG carry out training activities there and it is within the area of ​​action.

School support

The Iniciativas el Gigante Foundation has continued with Action 01, called "CLASES ON", consisting of school support and study techniques for underprivileged children through Foundation volunteers on Saturday mornings at the Santa Maria social center.

The number of beneficiaries has been 31 children.

An intense diffusion campaign was carried out to publicize the initiative, both in the neighborhood, door to door, and by the collaborating schools, through meetings with the heads of studies and directors.

Days of Coexistence

There have been three days of coexistence in the social premises of Santa María during the months of January, April and May.

The average attendance was 60 people, highlighting the one held on April 8 coinciding with the International Day of the Gypsy people.

Days of Leisure Activities and Free Time

In addition to the days of coexistence for adults have also been three days of leisure activities and free time during the months of January, April and May.

Two took place in the vicinity of the social premises of Santa María, and the last in the atrium of the Church, next to the social housing.

The beneficiaries were the children and young people of this neighborhood, and the average attendance was around 50 children.
