Satur Martínez: "The environmental education of children is fundamental to continue advancing in the conservation of nature and the habits of life for a sustainable planet" (04/06/2018)

The City Council continues with the development of activities commemorating the World Environment Day, among which include the delivery of plants to students of the school Virgen de las Huertas, which took place this morning.

The Councilor for the Environment in the Municipality of Lorca, Saturnina Martínez, highlighted the special importance of raising awareness about respect for nature, particularly at very young ages.

We are talking about disclosing among the smallest of the house the main notions regarding environmental conservation.

They are precisely those who best understand the need to maintain habits that contribute to the respect of our natural environment through light acts that, maintained over time, achieve that we can continue to grow in this sense.

It's about continuing, for example, with the separation of solid waste in our own home, distinguishing between paper and cardboard, glass and organic waste, as well as keeping our streets clean, acting with civility in the passage of our pets through the city and contribute to the conservation of our green areas.

Satur Martinez participated this morning in an informative day in environmental matters that has developed the school Virgen de las Huertas, and that has provided an informative talk to students of the center, who have received a plant (begonia), explaining previously the care that It needs and the extraordinary work done by trees, plants and insects to make life possible on our planet.

This is an initiative framed within the program designed by the City Council to celebrate the World Environment Day, whose activities began last week, and for the day today is added a talk on selective waste collection and its treatment in the Waste Management Center of Lorca, for the students of the Sierra Almenara institute.

During today, in addition, the mobile eco-park covers the urban area and several districts.

The Environment Minister has anticipated that for tomorrow, Tuesday, June 5, World Environment Day, a CuentaCuentos activity has been planned for Almendricos school students, coinciding with the reopening of the municipal library located in that center.

It is about "Natural tales for environmental children", and has the organization of the Municipal Library Network.

At 11 o'clock in the morning will begin an informative day on sea turtles on the Costa Murciana, given by the General Directorate of Natural Environment, taking place at the Cultural Center.

At 12.30 there will be a talk on selective waste collection and treatment at the Waste Management Center of Lorca in the auditorium of the Ramon Arcas Mecca Institute, while at 21.45 the City Council will not turn on the lighting of several emblematic buildings and monuments of the Municipality as a call for attention to responsible consumption of energy resources.

The celebration of this day gives us the opportunity to broaden the foundations of a well-informed public opinion and of the conduct of individuals, companies and communities inspired by the sense of their responsibility for the conservation and improvement of the medium.

This day has been gaining relevance since it began to be held in 1974 and, now, it is a worldwide platform for public outreach with wide repercussion around the globe.

Each year, World Environment Day is organized around a theme and serves to focus attention on a particular pressing issue.

This year's theme, Without Pollution For Plastic, appeals to the population in favor of a planet without contamination by plastics.

Every year 8 million tons of this element are dumped into the oceans, threatening marine and human life, and destroying natural ecosystems.

The objective is to raise awareness about the need to reduce the amount of plastic that is poured into our oceans.

The celebration of this day aims to make us aware that we ourselves can change habits in our day to day to reduce the heavy burden of the contamination of plastics in our nature, in our wildlife and on our own health.

While it is true that plastic has many valuable uses, we rely too much on single-use or disposable plastic and that has serious environmental consequences.
