The Councilor for Parks and Gardens of the City of Lorca, Angel Meca, reported this morning that the Lorca Consistory has awarded the new contract for cleaning, maintenance and conservation of green areas in public schools, parks, gardens and trees of the municipality.
Ángel Meca pointed out that "this contract will allow all Lorca to have well-preserved green and recreational areas that we can enjoy and that will make our city more beautiful than it is." This is possible thanks to the effort and work of the municipal technicians, as well as that of all the workers who, with their task, make all our green areas look more splendid for the use and enjoyment of Lorca and visitors ".
The Councilor for Parks and Gardens has explained that "the new contract will cover 242,630 m2 of garden areas, which is 40% more than the previous one, and 24,239 trees." In addition, in terms of human resources, there is a specialized technician in work of arboriculture that joins an important team of workers with 10 more workers than in the previous contract who will perform tasks of irrigation, mowing and profiling of grass, fertilization, aeration, scarification and replanting of grass, interbedded, raking, weeding and elimination of weeds, preservation of the structure of the existing plant elements, conservation of the trees, maintenance of the irrigation network, replenishment, pruning, trimming of shrubs, ornamentation of squares and gardens, as well as cleaning of these areas, among others. For this purpose, 11 brigades will be created per neighborhood. "

The deadline to submit the curriculum will end on June 15 and may be presented in the register of the City Council, the Department of Development and the Town Hall.
Mecca has indicated that "the new park and garden service will have a mobile fleet composed of 16 cars, of which 8 will be electric, and a large team consisting of 55 machines (chain saws, lawnmowers, mowers, blowers, weeders, hedge trimmers and phytosanitary treatment devices.) As new developments in terms of irrigation include the supply of 25 new automata for the remote management of irrigation with new technology that join the 20 already in operation.In addition, 50,000 meters of pipeline with integrated drippers will be installed for underground irrigation In this sense, it is noteworthy that only the municipality of Lorca and the city of Alicante have this irrigation system located by drip (surface or buried) that represents a saving in terms of water efficiency of 30 40% with respect to traditional sprinkler irrigation ".
The Mayor of Parks and Gardens added that "this contract also includes other improvements such as the realization of a phytosanitary treatment plan in which environmentally friendly products will be used, also eliminating the herbicide in public gardens, waste management for enhance the reuse of these plant remains as mulching, the creation of a digital platform (GIS) for the management of maintenance of green areas, the comprehensive management plan for municipal trees that will use techniques based on ornamental arboriculture and distribution of 10,000 shrubs of the Sevillian rose, poliogala, cotoneacter type ..., as well as the delivery of 150,000 seasonal flower plants (thoughts, petunias, poinsettia ...) ".
The new contract starts with a duration of 4 years and will be carried out by Acciona Medio Ambiente.
